Thermal images taken by a drone show the extent of the warehouse blaze

About 80 firefighters are tackling a large blaze at a textile warehouse in south-east London.

London Fire Brigade workers have been at the scene in Cricket Lane in Beckenham, in the borough of Bromley, since 08:21 this morning.

About 30 people left the building before fire crews arrived.

LFB's Lee Sparks, who is at the scene, said: “A large quantity of clothing is alight and the fire had spread to the roof of the building. Fire crews have been working hard to bring the fire under control but there are some deep-seated pockets of fire so it is likely that they will remain at the scene for some time."

He added: “We would ask people nearby to keep their windows and doors shut for the time being as there is still quite a lot of acrid smoke.”

An LFB drone is gathering aerial views and thermal images to aid the firefighters on the ground.

Vincent Van Gogh's life was a short one but almost three years of it were spent in Britain. A big new exhibition at Tate Britain in London brings together 50 of his pictures - including some masterpieces - to show how life in the capital and the art scene in Britain - influenced the young artist. And how he in turn influenced British artists such as Francis Bacon.

You wouldn't normally visit a major show of work by Van Gogh to find yourself surrounded in the first rooms by paintings and engravings by the likes of James Whistler, Sir John Millais and Gustave Doré. But the new exhibition Van Gogh and Britain is all about context.

Tate Britain has assembled around 100 pictures, half of which are by Van Gogh, who came to London in the spring of 1873 when he was 20. His career as a painter was ahead of him.

Police investigating so-called county lines drug operations have charged eight people from London and Cornwall in connection with alleged drug-related and modern slavery offences.

Officers said properties in Haringey, Lewisham and Hackney in London, as well as in Bodmin, St Austell and Newquay in Cornwall, were raided at the end of February as part of ongoing work to disrupt drug-dealing operations.

County lines, external is the name used to describe urban gangs supplying drugs to other parts of the UK using dedicated mobile phone lines. The gangs are also likely to exploit children and vulnerable adults to move and store drugs and money.

Devon and Cornwall Police said a 56-year-old man from Bodmin, a 32-year-old man from Newquay and a 65-year-old woman from St Dennis had been charged with offences including conspiracy to supply class A drugs, and to "arrange/facilitate the travel of another with a view to exploitation, under the Modern Slavery Act".

They are due to appear before Bodmin Magistrates' Court on Thursday.

Five males from London, aged between 17 and 49, have already appeared before magistrates in London, charged with the same offences, and were due to appear at Truro Crown Court on 2 April, police said.

More than 5,000 homes could be built above Clapham Junction train stations, as architects reveal their “once in a lifetime” plans for redevelopment.

Planners say the proposals would increase the station’s capacity and make sure it is ready for Crossrail 2, as well as creating a “new town centre” for the area.

In March 2018, Network Rail took over management of the station from South Western Railway, in preparation for redevelopment – these new homes are the first step towards that redevelopment.

Shops and restaurants near the station would be demolished, and the main entrance moved closer to the corner junction.

The Falcon pub would remain as a separate building.

As well as this infrastructure work and the more than 5,000 homes, the designers also envisage space for shops, entertainment and industrial units.
