  1. Police horses join the parade

It's been a very busy day in the city, with the Great Manchester Run only finishing a few hours before City's parade.

And among the hardest working today have been Greater Manchester Police's mounted units.

Such a big day deserves a big response, but sadly, we cannot confirm if Trooper, the force's largest ever equine recruit, is part of the parade.

  2. City centre turns blue

The weather is certainly not dampening spirits with flags, fists and an inflatable Jack Grealish doll raised high in celebrations.

Only a few hours earlier, about 25,000 people pounded the streets for the Great Manchester Run so an impressive turnaround by those working on both events.

  3. Pep, KDB and an optimistic Jack Grealish

Manager Pep Guardiola and midfielder Kevin De Bruyne are also lapping up the attention ahead of a special evening.

It’s wet, but it was absolutely pouring for their victory parade last year as well.

Thanks to yesterday's FA Cup final defeat, I don’t think it will be as euphoric as it was last season, when they won the treble, but the fans are here to celebrate that four-in-a-row which was such a historic achievement for Manchester City.

There are so many Phil Foden flags and scarves about – he's a local favourite and the Stockport-born player's goals and assists were a huge part of getting City across the line.

  5. Happy Haaland and smiling Stones

There were grins all round as the players arrived for the parade.

Erling Haaland and John Stones were just two of the side to take the handshakes and high-fives from the fans outside the National Football Museum.

  6. Showers and wind until the end

Our colleagues at BBC Weather predict light rain showers and winds until the parade's expected end after 21:00 BST.

Not that such things are bothering the celebrating fans on the streets of Manchester.

In fairness, as every Mancunian knows, there's always a chance of a little rain in the city...

  7. Fans gather for start of parade

Fans have been awaiting the squad's appearance outside the National Football Museum, where they will board the buses before travelling past through Cathedral Gardens and on to Deansgate.

  8. Roads and parking bays closed for parade

Manchester City Council has closed dozens of roads and parking bays for the parade and most will remain closed until at least 23:00 BST.

The authority said fans planning to attend the parade should "use public transport where possible", travel light and "not to bring drinks in glass bottles with them".

  9. Stats to win a Premier League title

    BBC Sport

    • Manchester City are the first side in the entire history of the English top-flight to win the title in four consecutive seasons. Four sides have won the title in three consecutive seasons (Huddersfield, Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United twice)
    • Only Manchester United (13) have won more titles in the Premier League era than Manchester City's eight
    • Pep Guardiola is only the fourth man to win as many as six English top-flight titles, while only Alex Ferguson (13) has ever won more Premier League titles than the Spaniard
    • Guardiola has won the title in 12 of his 15 seasons as a top-flight manager across spells in charge of Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Manchester City. He has now won a title in four consecutive seasons for the very first time
    • Manchester City have gone the entire Premier League season unbeaten at home for the first time since the 2011-12 campaign, and it is only the fourth time ever they have done so in the top-flight (also in 1904-05 and 1920-21)
    • Manchester City ended the season with a run of 23 unbeaten Premier League matches – their second longest unbeaten run in Premier League history, behind a 30-game run between April 2017 and January 2018
    • Since Pep Guardiola joined Manchester City in 2016-17, they have picked up 59 more points than any other Premier League side and won 29 more matches than anyone else
  10. Parade route and what will happen

Thousands of fans are expected to line the streets for the parade, which will begin at the National Football Museum at about 19:30 BST.

The open-top buses carrying Pep Guardiola, his squad and staff will then pass through Cathedral Gardens and Exchange Square, before travelling down Deansgate to a finish outside the Hilton Hotel at about 21:00.

The club says there will be "large screens and stage shows with a mix of interviews, musical performances and exciting activities" at the start and the end of the route and the parade’s presenters, Natalie Pike and FG, will host "directly from the buses".

  11. Celebrating an unusual trio of titles

The parade is Manchester City's fourth in as many years through the streets of Manchester.

General view as Manchester City's Kyle Walker lifts the trophy alongside teammates after winning the Club World Cup final

Last year, the team celebrated a treble of trophies, after they won not just the league, but also the FA Cup and Champions League.

This time around, they have had to make do with only one domestic trophy, after they lost the FA Cup final to city rivals Manchester United on Saturday, but they will still be celebrating a treble of sorts.

Back in August 2023, City beat Sevilla on penalties to take the Uefa Super Cup, while in the following December, they travelled to Saudi Arabia to compete in the Fifa Club World Cup.

Pep Guardiola's men took that title without letting in a goal, putting three goals past Japan's Urawa Red Diamonds in the semi-final before going one better and beating Brazil's Fluminense 4-0 in the final.

  12. Rain fails to dampen fans' spirits

Manchester City's fans have begun turning the streets of Manchester city centre blue for the parade - and have not been put off by the almost inevitable arrival of rain.

  13. 'One of Manchester City's best seasons

    BBC Radio Manchester

The victory parade is to celebrate Manchester City's record-breaking season, which saw them become the first men's side to lift the Premier League trophy four times in a row.

Manchester City's Kyle Walker and teammates celebrate with the trophy after winning the Premier League

BBC Radio Manchester's Mike Minay took a look back at it:

Quote Message: It is their eighth Premier League title, but the 2023-24 season has to be up there with one of Manchester City's best.
Quote Message: I think this season has to live strong for the fact that it never was City at their best. Injury-hampered, a change in personnel losing some really influential players in the summer and yet they still got over the line.
Quote Message: I cannot recall many complete 90-minute performances from Manchester City yet they still found ways to win and when they were set back, many stepped forward.
Quote Message: Lose Kevin De Bruyne, step up Phil Foden. Lose Erling Haaland, Julian Alvarez carries the mantle.
Quote Message: Since 6 December 2023, Manchester City have not lost in the league. They stepped it up, won crucial games - including the last nine - and are deserved winners.
