  1. Pilot anxious about take-off just before fatal helicopter crashpublished at 13:01

    A pilot in a helicopter that took off in thick fog from the Norfolk home of one of Northern Ireland's richest men expressed anxiety just before it crashed, killing all  four occupants.

    An inquest into the deaths in a crash at Gillingham on 13 March 2014 of businessman Lord Ballyedmond, 70, and Declan Small, 42, both of County Down; pilot Capt Carl Dickerson, 36, of Lancashire, and co-pilot Capt Lee Hoyle, 45, of Cheshire, heard recordings of cockpit conversations. 

    One of the pilots said: "I don't mind telling you I'm not very happy about lifting out of here." The other pilot replied: "It should be okay ... because you can still see the moon", but it was not possible to identify who said what, the jury was told.

  3. Flood warning lifted but people asked to stay alert to surgespublished at 12:14

    Flood warnings have been lifted along the north Norfolk coast, although residents and businesses are still asked to stay alert for surges at high water times.

    The Environment Agency, external issued warnings for parts of the coast between Hunstanton and Wells Quay, anticipating a wind-assisted surge at high tide during mid-morning. 

    "This area is still covered by our general early notification of possible flooding, known as a flood alert," the agency said.

  4. Three people found drifting on fishing boat in The Wash during stormpublished at 11:15

    Wells-next-the-Sea lifeboat was called out to help three people stranded in a fishing boat in difficulty in storm force winds on Thursday night.

    Lucky Luke, from King's Lynn, was drifting in The Wash with a damaged rudder and the crew had difficulty steering, Alan Frary from the lifeboat said. 

    "The people on board were able to resolve the issue and made their way to the river entrance and, I believe, they were escorted back by a Lynn pilot boat," he said.

  5. Guard suspended over 'homeless people doused' allegationpublished at 10:51

    A security guard has been suspended at the Castle Mall shopping centre in Norwich after an investigation into allegations cold water was thrown over homeless people sheltering in an entrance.

    The company that provides security guards, Interserve, has apologised and pledged to donate money to local homeless charities. 

    The incident on Sunday evening was reported by the People's Picnic, a charity which feeds homeless people. 

  6. Travel: Disruption across countypublished at 09:20

    Temporary traffic lights for electricity work is causing disruption both ways on A1062 Horning Road in Hoveton at the A1151 Stalham Road junction. 

    Fallen trees are blocking roads and causing delays at Cess Road in Martham and at School Road junction in Potter Heigham.

    Callers to out-of-hours GP services in Norfolk faced waits of more than 12 hours, posing a "significant risk to patient safety", a leaked report claims.

    The interim report by Norfolk Clinical Commissioning Group into Integrated Care 24 (IC24) found deficiencies in call handling and a shortage of GPs with some patients waiting more than 12 hours for a response. 

    During unannounced inspections following complaints, staff said they had been asked to alter their records. IC24 said it had addressed the issues.

  8. Three hour blizzard in east of county leaves icy patchespublished at 08:40

    High winds brought blizzard conditions to Norwich and the east part of the county on Thursday night.

    The worst of the snow hit roads just after the rush hour and lasted for more than three hours before turning to sleet.

    Temperatures dropped rapidly during the night to leave icy patches on roads which were gritted for a second time after 2.30am, the county council said.
