  4. Work to improve waiting times for speech therapy 'is under way'published at 17:23

    The neurological condition known as Parkinson's disease weakens the muscles, external for speech and swallowing, and concerns have been raised about delays in getting speech therapy for people with the condition who live in west Norfolk.   

    Norfolk Community Health and Care, external is commissioned by the West Norfolk Clinical Commissioning Group to provide adult language services, and says it's already met the commissioners' target for the year and is doing its best to manage ongoing demands for the service.

    Call them sinkholes, caverns, massive voids... Norwich has something of a history of them.

    Plumstead Road remains closed after a sinkhole opened up last week.  But the most famous is the one that swallowed up a double-decker bus on Earlham Road in 1988.                       

  6. 'No obvious cause' for sinkholepublished at 17:07

    A 6m-deep (19ft) sinkhole which opened up on Plumstead Road in Norwich last week is not connected to the area's centuries-old chalk lime pits.

    It had been feared the "cavernous void" could be part of a much larger underground chalk lime pit, similar to that which caused a nearby house to disappear into a cavity more than 20 years ago.

    Norwich City Council, external said tests showed it was particular to that part of the road and there was no obvious cause, such as a water main leak. It said the road would remain closed, with "foam concrete" due to be poured into the hole on Wednesday.  

  7. Fire sparks massive response from fire brigadepublished at 17:03

    A Norwich man says he was shocked when more than a dozen fire appliances turned up to deal with a fire in his flat.

    Thomas Hall, who lives on the ninth floor of a Burleigh Tower on the Heartsease estate, dialled the emergency services when his cooker caught fire, after he had accidentally left the hob switched on.  

    Thirteen appliances attended the fire in the 10-storey building, with seven remaining to deal with the incident. Mr Hall said the fire service told him the minimum number of appliances it could send to a fire in a high-rise flat was 10.

  8. Seaside town's historic quarter regeneration scheme is completepublished at 16:56

    A conservation-led regeneration scheme has come to an end after transforming the historic quarter of Great Yarmouth, centred on the King Street and St George's area. 

    One of the projects was the repair and refurbishment of a Grade-II listed former chapel dating from 1714, with the addition of a sympathetically-designed St George's Pavilion and new St George's Plaza (seen below).

    The £4m Heritage Township Initiative began in April 2012, with the aim of saving buildings for future generations.   

  9. Parkinson's sufferers lives 'at risk'published at 16:27

    A support group which helps people with Parkinson's disease says sufferers in west Norfolk are being put at risk because of a long wait for speech therapy.

    Janet Elvin, whose husband Tony has Parkinson's, runs the support group in King's Lynn, external and says the service for west Norfolk is overstretched.

    West Norfolk CCG, external says its services are under immense pressure, and work is under way to improve waiting times for speech therapy.    

  10. Norwich boss happy with January signingspublished at 16:05

    The transfer window closes at 23:00 but Norwich City manager Alex Neil isn't planning to join in with the transfer deadline frenzy.

    The Canaries have signed seven players over the past month, including today's capture of midfielder Ebou Adams from non-league Dartford.                               

  11. Cyclist injured in collision diespublished at 15:21

    A cyclist seriously injured in a collision at Cringleford, near Norwich, in November has died.

    The man, in his 60s, died at Addenbrooke's Hospital, Cambridge last Monday, after sustaining serious head, pelvis and leg injuries in the collision on 9 November.

    The incident happened shortly after 18:00 when a red Ford Fiesta, travelling on an access road alongside the A11 Newmarket Road towards the city, and the cyclist travelling in the opposite direction, collided at the junction of Round House Way.

  12. 'UFO crash' staged at primary schoolpublished at 14:57

    Schoolchildren were stunned to find wreckage they were informed was the remains of an alien spacecraft strewn across their playing field when they arrived for lessons at Wreningham Primary School, near Wymondham, today.

    The area was cordoned off to keep the children away from the debris, put there as part of a school project.

    While investigations continue, the school says it's been a good opportunity for pupils to learn about the Roswell incident in New Mexico, USA, in the 1940s when some people thought an alien spacecraft had crash-landed.                       

  13. Fake 'tweet' posted on bus cancellationspublished at 14:31 Greenwich Mean Time 1 February 2016

    The boss of a Norfolk-based bus company says he'll consider legal action if he finds out who posted a fake message on Twitter which claimed his routes weren't running.

    The tweet, which appeared to come from Sanders Coaches, external, said a lack of drivers meant there would be no services this morning.

  14. Pedestrian dies after collisionpublished at 13:11

    A pedestrian involved in a collision in Elm, near Wisbech, last night has died.

    The man, in his 20s, suffered serious head injuries after he was hit by a lorry on the A1101 shortly after 20:00. He was taken to hospital but died as a result of his injuries.

    The road was closed for several hours while police officers dealt with the incident.

  15. Half-marathon moves to springpublished at 12:43

    There will be no City of Norwich Half-Marathon this year. Instead the race is moving to spring, with the next race on 9 April 2017.

    The race has traditionally been staged in November. Last year's event was beset with problems when a technical fault left many participants without an official race time.

  16. Canaries sign Dartford youngsterpublished at 12:16

    Norwich City have confirmed the signing of midfielder Ebou Adams from non-league Dartford. 

    The 20-year old joins the Canaries under-21 set-up for an undisclosed fee, signing an 18-month contract.
