    Firefighters from Great Yarmouth are among 50 helping to put out a fire at a meat production company in Bramfield, near Halesworth, where more than £100,000 worth of damage has been caused.

    The fire is thought to have started in a freezer in the farm shop at Bramfield Meats - which is made of wood - at about 04:00 today. 

    Firefighters worked to save surrounding wooden buildings at the site where meat is butchered, cured and packed.

    Dale Wilby, site manager, said: "We've lost shop, the shop has gone... luckily we managed to save the main cutting units and the catering and wholesale, which will have save a lot of jobs, and if there is a bit of fortune, we're lucky we will have saved the bulk of the business, but the shop has gone."

    Swardeston Cricket Club are national T20 champions.

    The Norfolk side beat Sandiacre in the final at the home ground of first-class county Derbyshire.

    Swardeston were 148 for five with Lewis Denmark scoring for 69 not out. Sandiacre were then all out for 83.

    Joe Gatting wrapped up the win by taking three wickets in seven balls without conceding a run.

    The villagers have already won the EAPL and the Carter Cup in the past two weeks, with the National 45 Over final to come.

    A number of burglaries committed by an armed gang in Suffolk and Norfolk over the past few days could all be linked, say police.

    They're also not ruling out a connection to four break-ins in Sudbury.

    The community centres in Stanton and Mendlesham were broken into in the early hours of Saturday, while three social and sports clubs were ransacked in Norfolk.

    Det Insp Andrew Smethurst said police had been reviewing CCTV footage from the Suffolk incidents. "We believe from that we do have four offenders," he said.

    "At this time they appear to be wearing dark clothing and have got their faces covered so we're not able to issue a description at this time. 

    "I would advise people not to approach these suspects."

    Police investigating the attempted abduction of a serviceman from RAF Marham have received more than 30 calls after making a nationwide appeal on the BBC’s Crimewatch programme last night. They have released CCTV footage taken from a nearby shop which captures vehicles travelling to and from the scene in the hope of triggering drivers' memories.

    Det Supt Paul Durham said: "Although the CCTV quality is poor, looking out on to Squires Hill around the time of the incident, you can see vehicles travelling in both directions. "I want people think back to that sunny afternoon at around 3pm on Wednesday 20 July; were you one of those drivers? Even if you think your journey was unremarkable, please contact us. We’d like to hear from you."

    Now a residency programme for art graduates has been launched at the site, involving the Sainsbury Centre and Norwich University of the Arts (NUA). 

    Four graduate artists of NUA have been chosen for the month-long residency. They will be mentored by staff from the Sainsbury Centre and the deal will end with a public presentation of their work.

    He was taken ill ahead of the trial at the Old Bailey.

    A four-year-old girl who had 70% of her right lung and a kidney removed due to a rare condition has started her first day at school.

    Emily Norris, of Bowthorpe, Norwich, was born with a deformed lung, which was first detected when her mother, Nicol Pybus, went for her 20-week scan during pregnancy.

    She had most of her lung removed before her first birthday.

    Doctors then discovered she also had a diseased kidney which they took out when she was three. 

    Emily has growth issues and needs a feeding tube but her mother says she was excited to start at Costessey Infant School.

    "She has never let her medical issues stop her and just sees herself as a normal four-year-old," she said.

    A school in Norwich is hoping to get permission to start a new chain of academies.

    Bignold Primary, external, on Wessex Street, says it's very early days but believes the school ethos could help others. 

    Head teacher Clare Jones will find out in two weeks if she can formally apply for the new status from the regional schools commissioner.

    Ms Jones, who says she wants more transparency in the academy system, says parents have been informed. Ofsted's inspection of the school in March rated it as good. 

    Two years ago it was one of seven schools in Norfolk given expert help to improve academically.

    More now on the car driven without two of its tyres on the A47 early this morning.

    Police have confirmed that two men have been arrested on suspicion of driving whilst unfit through drink or drugs, and dangerous driving.

    The wrecked car, with its windows smashed and two tyres, missing was driven for about five miles (8km) on the broken metal rims of its wheels before being abandoned in a lay-by on the A47 near Dereham. 

    A motorist alerted police after seeing it being driven erratically.

    Photographs of the car on Twitter, external generated several responses including  "amazing", and "surprised it even moves."

    The car was found by PC Steve Lee who said: "It was in a terrible condition. I honestly couldn't believe it had been driven along a dual carriageway.

    "It's fortunate that nobody was seriously injured."

    Swardeston will play Tunbridge Wells in the second semi-final this afternoon with the winners going on to play in tonight's final. 

    The villagers won the tournament in 2010.
