  1. Alex Neil says 'Norwich are more suited to Premier League'published at 11:19 Greenwich Mean Time 19 January 2017

    Jay Lawrence
    BBC Radio Norfolk

Norwich City manager Alex Neil says his side are more suited to the Premier League than The Championship.

The Canaries faced top division Southampton last night in the FA Cup, cruelly conceding in stoppage time to lose 1-0.

Norwich are currently 11th in the league and 18 points off the top spot, and Neil says his side may have to scrap more if they want to play in the Premier League next season.

"I think this level suits us," he said. "The Championship is fight, battle, scrap and sometimes that doesn't suit us.

"When it's more of a tactical game and we can have a game plan, we seem to perform better. But we need to have that other side of the game because to get out of The Championship you're going to have to fight at times."

  4. Is it the end of the road for the 'the' in road names?published at 10:19 Greenwich Mean Time 19 January 2017

It seems that emergency services are not keen on the word 'the'.

They say that including the three letters in addresses such as "The Street" loses them vital seconds processing calls, and they'd like it not to be included in future.

The emergency services say valuable time is wasted while operators clarify whether someone lives at, for example, '17 The Avenue', or '17 Avenue'.

In a report to Breckland Council, external, they've request that the "the" be dropped from street names... and from house names.

The council will consider "the" issue today.

  6. Lead thefts: 'I thought a tornado had hit the church'published at 09:20 Greenwich Mean Time 19 January 2017

    Jill Bennett
    BBC Radio Norfolk

Repair work for hundreds of years of wear and tear at St Mary's Church in Snettisham came to an end just five months ago.

The local community had spent five years raising the money to maintain the 14th Century building with its landmark spire, but now the west Norfolk church has become a victim of lead thieves.

The raiders only took three sheets of lead, but dozens will need repairs, costing several thousands of pounds.

Edward Stanton, part of the committee who'd helped with the fundraising for the recent repairs, told me he realised the raiders had been at work when he arrived at the church last Thursday.

"I opened the south door as usual, there were bits of copper lying on the ground and I look up and saw how the lead had been peeled back. It looks almost as though a tornado had hit it."

  7. Lead thieves target church for third timepublished at 08:48 Greenwich Mean Time 19 January 2017

    Jill Bennett
    BBC Radio Norfolk

"There's now no lead left to take," says Reverend Judith Pollard after her west Norfolk church was targeted for a third time by thieves.

The raiders have removed all the lead from the north aisle and chantry roof of St Andrew church, in Little Massingham, causing extensive damage which will cost a great deal of money to repair.

The church, showing the damage to the roof

"The scrap value of the lead is a drop in the ocean in comparison to the amount of money it will cost to put the roof to rights", says Ms Pollard.

It's believed the thieves were disturbed during the incident, as the lead was left in situ. The theft has devastated the local community.

"People think this is a victimless crime, it's only a building but that's not true," Ms Pollard said. "It's the centre of the village... it has a historical heart of all sorts of baptisms, weddings, funerals over hundreds of years.

"It's the emotional damage as well as the damage to the physical building."

  8. Rail delays due to signalling faultpublished at 08:14 Greenwich Mean Time 19 January 2017

Passengers on rail services between Norwich and Great Yarmouth will have a longer journey time this morning.

A fault with the signalling system between Brundall and Acle means trains are running at reduced speed.

Greater Anglia warns of delays, external of up to 15 minutes, and expects disruption to continue to 09:30.

  9. Norwich City out of FA Cuppublished at 08:13 Greenwich Mean Time 19 January 2017

Norwich City are out of the FA Cup for another year. An injury-time goal meant Southampton came out 1-0 winners.

The match looked like it was going to go into extra-time, but a Shane Long strike put Saints into the fourth round, and a tie with Arsenal.

The Canaries had a depleted midfield, with Graham Dorrans, Jonny Howson, Louis Thompson and Youseff Mulumbu all unavailable.

Despite the result, manager Alex Neil said he was proud of his side's performance.

The Foreign Office is advising all UK nationals to leave the country after a state-of-emergency was declared in the West African state.

Mr Moore, who's in the UK, says he's heard from his wife a couple of times today and both the woman are OK.

"They're quite stoical really," he said. "They were taken to the airport by Thomas Cook around midday but as they are 'flight only', not part of a package, they're not being put on a flight today so they've got a taxi back to their hotel for the night and will see what tomorrow brings.

"Personally, I think as long as the state-of-emergency is in place, the advice from the FO will still be to come home so I think they'll be at the airport again tomorrow hoping to get a flight."

"This level of demand for new roles is unprecedented for us," he said.

Yesterday, another local firm, SeajacksUK, won a contract with Scottish Power Renewables, external, which is to build the East Anglia One wind farm off the Norfolk and Suffolk coast.

Janet Clark (pictured right), from Mattishall, is the co-founder of Gambian Aid Through Education, external and went out on Friday with Jane Moore (pictured left), from Taverham, on their annual visit.

They had taken out books, football shirts and computer equipment for local schools and were planning to visit several villages.

Mr Clark, at home in Mattishall, said his wife and Ms Moore were on their way to the airport to try and get a flight home.

"Janet was calm when I spoke to her earlier, she doesn't get worried about these things," he said.

"I'm a little bit concerned obviously, but if she's feeling calm then I have to be too. We're both Christians so we trust in God to look after us."
