John Baker, station manager of one of the four crews who went to the fire, says they don't think it was started deliberately: "We found a bonfire in close proximity and the wind I think has fanned some sparks and embers from that which have then got into the gorse, so I think it's an accidental fire."

The fire has now been put out.

  15. Changes proposed to Norfolk's constituenciespublished at 08:21 British Summer Time 17 October 2017

    Andrew Sinclair
    BBC Look East political correspondent

Plans to re-draw Norfolk's parliamentary constituencies have been published this morning.

Unlike some parts of the UK, we get off quite lightly. The proposals include reducing the number MPs from 650 to 600, but Norfolk will still have nine MPs, although the size and shape of every seat will change.

    House of CommonsImage source, PA

Most of the changes are minor but the Mid Norfolk constituency will lose Wymondham (which goes back to South Norfolk) while South West Norfolk will be renamed Thetford & Downham Market and cross the border to take in Littleport in Cambridgeshire.

Labour's Clive Lewis may have to work a little harder to hold on to his Norwich South seat which inherits Conservative-leaning Costessey and Cringleford.

His Conservative neighbour, Chloe Smith, who only has a majority of 507, might feel a little safer as Norwich North will extend into Broadland.

But these are only proposals from the Boundary Commission, external.

The public has one final say on the plans and then they'll need to be voted on by MPs.

Given how much else is going on at Westminster, and the fact that these plans do not have cross-party support, it is possible that they'll never get approved.

  18. Former Yarmouth hotel could be turned into care homepublished at 17:12 British Summer Time 16 October 2017

    Andrew Turner
    BBC Radio Norfolk

A disused hotel could be pulled down to allow a £5m rebuild of a care home in Great Yarmouth.

The Arden Court Hotel closed its doors two years ago - and was snapped up by the Kingsley Healthcare group, which owns the Eversley Nursing Home next door.

    Arden Court Hotel

The Arden Court Hotel closed in 2015, and the owners of the care home had considered linking the two together.

But the company says starting afresh means they can create a modern care home with two lifts and 39 en-suite bedrooms.

Chris May from Kingsley said: "We've got to knock down the hotel, build the first part of the care home ensuring we have all the facilities such as laundry, kitchen and so forth in the first half of the building.

"Technically we'll then decant everybody from the old building into the new building and then pull down the old building."

An application to demolish the hotel, which is on North Denes Road, has been made to Great Yarmouth Borough Council.

  20. Great Storm: Memories of Blickling 30 years onpublished at 16:08 British Summer Time 16 October 2017

    Caroline Kingdon
    BBC Local Live

It was 30 years ago that the worst storm to hit Great Britain in 300 years swept across the south and east of Britain.

The Blickling estate in north Norfolk was directly in its path, losing hundreds of trees in the strong winds.

Stephen Hagon has been a gardener at the National Trust property for 45 years, and he says it was a sight he'll never forget.

"The gardens were a mess, there were trees down everywhere," he said.

"I remember picking our way through the avenues as best we could, but everything was just flat on the ground. We walked around in stunned silence.

"Centuries-old trees were just flattened, we lost a lot of specialist rhododendrons as well... it was a mess... we were used to having the odd tree or branch down that didn't take long to clear up... it was heartbreaking."

He says a lot of the grounds were still closed the following summer.

In total, 265 trees were lost. They were replaced with 365 - one for each day of the year.

Stephen, who's now assistant head gardener, is the only one of the gardeners from that time still working on the estate.

Now, he says, if gusts over 50mph are expected, they close the gardens and woodlands to the public.
