    Essex's assistant chief constable has said that 1,595 people were spoken to about essential journeys and social distancing in the first three days of the bank holiday weekend.

    However, only eight penalty notices were issued.

  2. Airport car park to become coronavirus testing centrepublished at 08:24 British Summer Time 14 April 2020

    A drive-in coronavirus testing site is to open at a long-stay car park at London Stansted Airport.

    It will be for self-isolating healthcare workers and members of their families who have symptoms.

    Five testing lanes have been created, as a pilot, in a joint operation with Sodexo. Samples will be sent to new laboratories set up in Milton Keynes, Alderley Park in Cheshire and Glasgow.

    Lord Bethell, health minister, said: "This new service will help end the uncertainty of whether NHS and social care staff need to stay at home, meaning those who test negative will be able to return to work."

    Ken O’Toole, the airport's chief executive officer, said: "During the pandemic we have been in constant contact with the government and have looked to play our part in the response when and where possible, including facilitating repatriation flights to get people home and hosting more essential cargo flights."

  3. Hospital launches 'postal' service for patients and relativespublished at 08:14 British Summer Time 14 April 2020

    From today, relatives and friends of patients at Northampton General Hospital can take advantage of a new "postal" service on the wards.

    "If your loved one is staying in hospital with us you can email a letter and/or photos for them and we'll deliver it," staff wrote on Facebook.

    The service will run Mondays to Fridays and all emails received before 3pm will be delivered that same day.

  4. Hospital releases more than 80 patients after recoverypublished at 08:10 British Summer Time 14 April 2020

    Staff at a hospital have found "some positives" in the current coronavirus outbreak after being able to release 84 patients who had tested positive for Covid-19.

    The James Paget Hospital in Gorleston, Norfolk, tweeted on Monday to say that "in the midst of very sad news about those that have died", they had been able to discharge more than 80 who no longer needed acute care.

    An Army veteran raising funds for the fight against Covid-19 said raising almost £500,000 is "beyond my wildest dreams".

    Tom Moore aims to complete 100 laps of his Bedfordshire garden by Thursday, walking with the aid of a frame.

    The 99-year-old initially hoped to raise £1,000 for the "magnificent" NHS, but after the story went public on 8 April more than 23,000 people have donated funds - and the total keeps going up, external.

    Mr Moore, who served in World War Two, has completed 70 laps of the 25-metre (82ft) loop in his garden in Marston Moretaine. He is taking them on in 10-lap chunks, as you can see here.

    An Army veteran reacted with stunned silence when he heard he had raised more than £500,000 for the NHS, external.

    Tom Moore said: "Who would have thought that when I set a target of £1,000 a week ago, it could have reached £500,000?"

    The 99-year-old World War Two veteran plans to walk 100 laps of his Bedfordshire garden by Thursday - he has so far walked 70 laps of the 25-metre (82ft) loop.

    More than 500 Easter eggs that were due to be used during an annual hunt at a wildlife park have been donated to a food bank.
