    The 2020 Aldeburgh Festival in Suffolk, has been cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

    The classical music festival, based mostly at Snape Maltings, was due to be held between 12 and 28 June, external.

    Snape Maltings’ chief executive Roger Wright said it as with "enormous sadness" that the cancellation was made.

    He said they would be contacting all ticket holders soon.

    The festival was founded by local composer Benjamin Britten in Aldeburgh in 1948.

    If you're missing being able to get out and about to some of the region's interesting historic sites, then English Heritage, external can bring some of them to you - online.

    It has highlighted 30 of its buildings, monuments and sites across the country available to visit online - including a few in the East of England.

    The sites, including Audley End House and Gardens in Essex, external, Wrest Park , externaland its Collections Store , externalin Bedfordshire and Grime’s Graves in Norfolk, external, use digital technology, to bring their stories to life via the Google Arts & Culture platform, external.

    Last week, the organisation took the decision to close all its staffed historic sites and cancel all public events.

    Curatorial director Anna Eavis said: "We look forward to welcoming visitors back to those sites as soon as it is safe to do so, but until then we hope these online experiences will allow people an escape, and the chance to learn something new."

    A "thoughtful" garden centre worker has been thanked by his neighbours for leaving flowers on their doorstep.

    David Barton, who works at Sprowston Garden Centre near Norwich, saved pot plants from going to waste while the business was closed during lockdown.

    Last week, he put them outside front doors on his cul-de-sac in Sprowston, and was thanked on a community Facebook page.

    "I can’t thank [in person] the lovely man who just delivered this beautiful flower to my door," said one neighbour.

    "Such a kind gesture in these tough times."

    "It has certainly put a smile on my face," said another.

    Mr Barton said: "With the situation at the moment there would not have been adequate staff to care for the houseplants.

    "We decided to distribute to the local community so people could enjoy them while they were looking their best and spread some happiness in this uncertain time."

    It is hoped a couple from south Norfolk will be able to get refuge in the US after four people died of suspected coronavirus on their cruise ship.

    David and Heather Haycox from Brooke were transferred from the contaminated vessel Zaandam close to Panama over the weekend.

    It is hoped their new liner will be allowed to dock in America, after numerous countries turned away their original cruise ship.

    The couple's daughter, Sami Haycox, said: "The next big thing is to be lobbying America to let the boat dock so they can come home from there but we don't know if that will happen."

    A man has been charged after allegedly coughing over people at a shop.

    Suffolk Police said a "number of members of the public" reported that a man wearing a mask was behaving anti-socially in the Co-op, external on Church Street in Eye on Saturday.

    A 34-year-old man from the town has been charged with various offences including causing harassment, alarm or distress; disorderly behaviour and resisting arrest.

    He has been released on bail and is due to appear before Ipswich Magistrates' Court next month.

    If you're looking for something crafty to do while at home during the coronavirus pandemic, then Bletchley Park - the home of the World War Two codebreakers - has launched a boredom- buster appeal to make bunting.

    Bunting for Bletchley asks people to help create and donate more than 1,945m of red, white and blue bunting to decorate the site when it opens again to the public.

    It had to cancel its VE Day 75 Celebration Weekend, originally scheduled for 8-9 May.

    James Paget University Hospital has announced that a patient with coronvirus died on Sunday.

    It said the man, in his 80s, had underlying health conditions.

    His family had been informed, said a spokesman for the hospital, which is in Gorleston-on-Sea, Norfolk.

    A council has issued a warning after some residents received letters claiming they had "failed to obey" self isolation and social distancing procedures.

    The letters, purporting to be from Huntingdonshire District Council,, external said they had photographic evidence of multiple infringements and while they will not "peruse" [sic - we think they mean pursue] the matter further on this occasion, they may do in the future.

    The council said they were not from the authority and people should disregard them.

    It says they "do NOT issue this type of letter about individual whereabouts".

    "We remind residents to practise social distancing and self isolation as laid out by government guidance," a further tweet, external added.

    The Abbey Theatre in St Albans has started a project to encourage people to be creative while in isolation - and it's got a Hollywood film director on board.

    The amateur company is asking people to write one-minute monologues about social isolation and will choose some to be made into films using smartphone apps which will be judged by its patron, the director Mike Newell, whose movies include Harry Potter & The Goblet of Fire and Four Weddings And A Funeral.

    Someone from its own team of amateur actors will be in each film chosen, but if you'd like to make your own at home that's fine as well.

    Theatre chairman Martin Goodman said it was a "novel and exciting project".

    "I thought this was a good way to engage all those people across the 'little theatre' world," he said.

    A breathing aid that can help keep coronavirus patients out of intensive care has been created in under a week.

    University College London engineers worked with clinicians at UCLH and the Northamptonshire-based Mercedes Formula One team, external to build the device, which delivers oxygen to the lungs without needing a ventilator.

    Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) devices are already used in hospitals but are in short supply.

    Normally thousands of people all ages are playing football matches at the weekend.

    Covid-19 has put a stop to that, so how do you keep the young footballers’ team spirit alive?

    Norfolk youth side Stoke United FC came up with the idea of a video, featuring a Stormzy soundtrack, to keep the team practising.

    Chairman and coach Rob Ward said: "We wanted to do something for their well-being, to make sure they’re still connected, and they were still playing the game which they obviously miss.

    "Whilst it’s not the same, we thought it was probably the next best thing."

    As more people order home deliveries during the coronavirus pandemic, police are warning residents to be alert after a gang claimed to be delivering food before forcing their way into a elderly woman's home.

    Five offenders approached the home of the woman, in her 70s, in the Turners Hill area of Cheshunt in Hertfordshire between 21:45 and 21:55 on Friday.

    The suspects, who were in a dark-coloured Audi A4, pretended they were delivering food and stole jewellery.

    A couple who were due to get married on Saturday donated their wedding cake to the maternity department and others at the Lister Hospital in Stevenage.

    Joseph Shea and his fianceé Isabel Maille have postponed their wedding until next year due to the coronavirus pandemic and wanted the three-tier sponge to be put to good use.

    Joseph's mother, Lesley Shea, said it was "their little way of thanking the NHS" and they were "absolutely thrilled to put a smile on their faces".
