    A mobile Covid-19 testing unit will test essential workers in Stevenage today.

    If you are in the first 72 hours of experiencing symptoms, or live with people who are, you can go to Hertfordshire County Council's Farnham/Robertson House offices on Six Hills Way, and take your work ID badge with you.

  3. Hospital builds 18-bed ward in car parkpublished at 09:53 British Summer Time 27 April 2020

    Kettering General Hospital

    Work has started to build a temporary 18-bed ward in the main car park at Kettering General Hospital, Northamptonshire.

    It is hoped the ward will open on 18 May and be in operation for six months.

    It will serve as a contingency measure to support the management and flow of non-Covid patients at the hospital.

    The chief constable of Suffolk, external labelled the actions of a small minority of people ignoring coronavirus restrictions at the weekend as "unbelievable".

    Steve Jupp said a couple of officers were coughed or spat at, one was assaulted and another was bitten by a dog when they went to break up street parties.

    "By and large Suffolk communities have been sticking to the advice, but there have been a few extremes," he said.

    Mr Jupp said it was "unbelievable" and the wider community would be "disappointed" that some people still think "it's alright to travel to friends' houses to have a party, to have a street barbecue, just to push the limits of common sense".

    Police in Welwyn Garden City said the number of people in Stanborough Park on Sunday afternoon who were ignoring the social-distancing restrictions was "disappointing".

    Officers said they had "moved on" people who were fishing, sunbathing, having picnics and boating on the lake.

    In a Facebook post, external, they said "the rules apply to every single person" and we "must adhere to the government guidelines, external to prevent the spread of the coronavirus".

    The latest figures for the number of Covid-19 deaths in the East of England has been released by the government, external.

    In the BBC East region, statistics for each NHS hospital trust show a rise of 55 deaths, although daily increases do not necessarily reflect deaths from the previous day, just those reported in the previous 24 hours.

    The total number of deaths at the region's hospitals is now 2,409.
