    UK Power Networks , externalsay across the East of England there are 54,700 properties without power due to Storm Eunice.

    A further 277,000 properties that were without power have now been reconeccted.

    The breakdown for current outages is:

    • Bedfordshire 3,500
    • Cambridgeshire 3,500
    • Essex 21,100
    • Hertfordshire 6,500
    • Suffolk 13,900
    • Norfolk 5,800

    An alternative entrance to A&E is in use at Broomfield Hospital in Chelmsford due to building damage.

    Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust, external says services are still up and running but some changes are in place due to the storm.

    A road at Basildon Hospital has also been temporarily shut.

    Chief operating officer Andrew Pike said: "We are open for business as usual, but are experiencing some issues because of the bad weather.

    "We are having to use some temporary entrances, and people may be redirected to departments. We’d like to apologise for any inconvenience."

    While weather conditions remain severe, people are being asked to stay away from A&E unless they have life threatening conditions.

  4. All trains between Milton Keynes and London suspendedpublished at 15:09 Greenwich Mean Time 18 February 2022

    Network Rail, external said it had stopped all trains running in and out of London Euston.

    "All lines are suspended affecting services between Euston and Milton Keynes until further notice," it said.

    "The message to passengers is 'DO NOT TRAVEL' today as the railway network is being battered by gale force winds.

    "Rapid response teams are clearing fallen trees and debris which are blocking lines in multiple locations on the West Coast main line."

    Network Rail's West Coast South route director, James Dean, said: "Hundreds of engineers are out in horrendous conditions trying to maintain and protect the railway from the onslaught of this major storm.

    "Because of Storm Eunice's severity we've had no choice but to close some routes as it's too unsafe to run trains."

    A tree has fallen down, smashing through a wall and crashing onto a house, on a main route through Sudbury in Suffolk.

    Gainsborough Street is expected to be closed for the rest of the day.

    Det Supt Dave Giles, from Suffolk Police, said it had been a "busy day" for the force, but they had "put in extra resources" to deal with it.

    He said they had 78 weather-related incidents called in to them by 13:00, and he urged people to stay at home.

    A town centre has been closed off due to roof tiles flying off on the market square.

    Train operator c2c , externalhas suspended all services between London and Southend due to debris and obstructions on the lines.

    Laura McEwen, c2c delivery director said: "Due to the weather we are advising passengers not to travel. We currently have multiple incidents ongoing across our network which c2c and Network Rail are working together to resolve."

    The train operator said the services were suspended to allow Network Rail to remove debris and obstructions.

    Severe disruption was expected until the end of the day.

    A woman is being treated by paramedics after being hit by a tree as it fell outside a church in Ipswich at lunchtime.

    The tree, in the grounds of the Elim Pentacostal Church, has broken about a metre up its trunk and fallen across the top end of Portman Road at Barrack Corner.

    Suffolk Police, external said the woman was being treated by the East of England Ambulance Service, external.

    The force said she was OK, but she was "lucky".

  12. Hospital trust says 'stay home and stay safe'published at 13:54 Greenwich Mean Time 18 February 2022

    East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust, external says all services are running normally but have told any patients worried about coming in "stay home and stay safe", unless you need urgent or emergency care.

    The trust runs Colchester and Ipswich hospitals, as well as community services in north Essex and east Suffolk.

    Nick Hulme, the trust's chief executive, said: "The most important thing is to stay safe and only come to our hospitals if you need urgent or emergency treatment.”

    Some outpatient appointments have been carried out virtually and other appointments are being rebooked for anyone unable to attend.

    Police in Aylesbury Vale in Buckinghamshire have been busy this morning.

    Thames Valley Police said people should avoid the A418 before Wing.

    Thousands of homes across the East of England are without power as Storm Eunice continues to batter the region with heavy winds.

    UK Power Networks, external estimates most power will be back on between 17:30 to 19:30 GMT for those currently affected.

    A statement on its website said: "We continue to monitor the weather closely and have additional staff ready to respond in operational, technical and call centre roles."

    Hertfordshire Police have said, external the A10 viaduct between Ware and Hertford has been closed.

    It said there were diversions in place, but asked people not to travel unless it was essential.

    Motorists are being warned of a fallen tree in Mildenhall, Suffolk.

    The tree has come down in Folley Road, at the junction with Finchley Road.

    Suffolk Police, external said live power cables were also down.

    It said Suffolk Highways, external and UK Power Networks, external were being called.

    Elsewhere, the force said a tree came down on the A134 just beyond Sicklesmere towards Sudbury.

    That has since been cleared and the road has reopened.
