  3. India Chipchase: Fingerprints consistent with 'lingering' or standing in kitchen and bathroompublished at 17:28 British Summer Time 22 July 2016

    The trial has also been hearing about fingerprint evidence from the Stanley Road property where India Chipchase's body was found. 

    Ms Chipchase's palm and fingerprints were discovered on doorways in and out of the downstairs kitchen and bathroom of the house.

    Prints expert Alan Gore said the pressure was "less consistent" with Ms Chipchase moving, and more likely showed she was "lingering" or standing still when she touched both door jambs.

  4. India Chipchase: 20-year-old's DNA found on cigarette buttspublished at 17:25 British Summer Time 22 July 2016

    Jurors at the trial of Edward Tenniswood also heard about DNA evidence from examinations of his rented terraced house in Stanley Road, Northampton, where India Chipchase's body was found.

    Laboratory tests on a cigarette butt discovered in a cup in the kitchen bin found DNA matching only that of Ms Chipchase.

    A cigarette butt found in a bath contained DNA from Ms Chipchase and also Tenniswood, but there was no conclusive reason for how both DNA profiles got there, the jury was told.

    Mr Christon added that he saw an older man wearing a parka-type jacket and a rucksack get "all the way up" to Ms Chipchase and "put his arm around her".

    He said: "He asked if she was OK. He put his arm around her and said 'We'll make sure we'll get you home in a taxi, safely'."

    He was concerned enough to tell his wife to keep watching, but added it did not appear to him that Ms Chipchase responded to the older man in any way during a 20-minute period.

    The jury in the trial of the man accused of raping and murdering 20-year-old India Chipchase in Northampton has been hearing from a witness who says he saw her the night before she was found dead by police.

    Christopher Christon said he was waiting for a lift home with his wife Jacqueline near NB's club in Northampton at about 01:00 on Saturday, 30 January when he saw Ms Chipchase on her phone and "stumbling" across the road.

    He said: "She seemed quite distressed. I think she was trying to get through to someone.

    "It seemed like she was crying."

    Hertfordshire's Lewis Hamilton crashed early in second practice as team-mate Nico Rosberg underlined Mercedes' pace at the Hungarian Grand Prix.

    Hamilton lost control at Turn 11 and slid into the barriers on his fourth lap. He limped back to the pits but could not run again, ending up fifth.

    Rosberg was 0.595 seconds quicker than Milton Keynes-based Red Bull's Daniel Ricciardo in second.

    Both of the county's NHS clinical commissioning groups (CCG) - which are responsible for planning and commissioning of health care services - have been rated as "requiring improvement" in the annual assessment by NHS England, external.

    A man and woman from Northampton have been remanded in custody after being charged with more than 100 drug and sexual offences between them.

    Appearing before magistrates in the town, Nick Taylor, 47, of no fixed abode, was facing 71 charges, while Joan Taylor, 43, of Lorne Road, is accused of 34 charges.

    The offences, which include rape and the supply of class A substances, are alleged to have taken place in the town.

    They are due next due to appear at Northampton Crown Court on 19 August.

    Yesterday, we brought you the story of an American Bulldog called Chunky (pictured when he arrived and when he put 10kg back on) which the RSPCA was having trouble re-homing.

    The animal charity's Northamptonshire branch says it's part of a wider pattern of bull-type breeds coming into their care.

    The branch's Emma Markham said they have seven kennels and of the 10 dogs currently there, seven are bull breeds.

    She said: "As bull breeds get bad press, it is becoming increasing difficult to re-home them."

  14. Three churches have 'thousands of pounds' worth of lead stolenpublished at 14:18 British Summer Time 22 July 2016

    Lead has been stolen from the roofs of three churches in east Northamptonshire in the past two weeks according to police.

    The first incident happened on Saturday 9 July at St Mary’s Church, external in Ringstead, where the offenders were disturbed when the alarm was activated.

    The second theft is believed to have happened sometime between Wednesday, 29 June and Wednesday, 13 July at St Andrew’s Church, external in Cotterstock (pictured), when a large amount of lead was found to be missing from the roof after it started to leak. 

    Thousands of pounds worth of lead was also stolen from the roof of St Mary’s Church, external in Luddington, sometime between Sunday, 10 July and Monday, 18 July.

    The MP for South Northamptonshire, Andrea Leadsom, says she is "disappointed for my constituents" after she and seven other MPs were denied the chance to appear before the House of Lords' HS2 Select Committee, external.

    However, the new environment secretary went on to say in a statement: "Should any of my constituents, who are directly and specially affected, wish to call me as a witness for their own hearing, I should be most happy to appear before the Lords Select Committee to support them."

    The HS2 high speed rail link, external is due to run from Birmginham to London and cut through south Northamptonshire.

    I've been looking at what led to the big swing from the Conservatives to the Liberal Democrats in the Westone ward by-election at Northampton Borough Council, external.

    The victor, Brian Markham, had held the seat for almost two decades up to 2011 and says people knew him and were voting on his record.

    But both Brian and the Conservative candidate Greg Lunn have told me a £10m loan to Northampton Town that has not been repaid was a factor on the doorstep.

    The Met Office have issued a yellow warning of rain for Northamptonshire. They say heavy showers and thunderstorms will break out during the late morning and afternoon before slowly fading this evening. 

    Whilst some places will miss the heaviest showers, where showers do occur they are likely to be prolonged allowing some large amounts of rain to fall.

    The warning is in place from 11:10 until 22:00.
