On Saturday, Corby Town defender Jason Lee started the party early, drinking some of a fan's pint while celebrating Ben Milnes' only goal in a 1-0 win over Mickleover Sports.

"After the goal was scored we all went off to celebrate with Ben, but a fan had spilled his pint, and another fan had thrown his pint up in the air," Lee told BBC Sport.

"Everyone was celebrating, everyone was drenched, but I didn't want the spilled pint to go to waste so I just thought I'd have a cheeky sip.

"I got busted, caught out by the photographer. Everyone within the five-metre radius thought it was funny. I thought I was just going to get a kick out of making those guys laugh, and now it's gone viral."

  4. Northamptonshire children's services cuts to provide 'value for money'published at 13:08 Greenwich Mean Time 13 February 2017

    Nic Rigby
    BBC News

We've been covering plans to cut spending on young children's services by Northamptonshire County Council.

The council has yet to say how many jobs are at risk, but it is clear saving £4.5m must involve some savings in salaries.

A spokesman told the BBC: "Last year the council agreed a new service delivery model, which could see some children's services brought in-house to lower commissioning costs as part of the transition into a standalone children's trust.

"More than 1,000 families are currently accessing targeted children's centre activity, of which more than half are already being supported by the council through other services.

"Therefore, the review of children's centres will look at how the council can reduce potential duplication and deliver better value for money."

  5. Northampton manager calls for consistency in second halfpublished at 12:56 Greenwich Mean Time 13 February 2017

    BBC Sport

Northampton Town manager Justin Edinburgh said he was encouraged with his side's progress as Cobblers celebrated a 3-1 win over Chesterfield on Saturday.

John-Joe O'Toole's first-half brace set Northampton on their way.

O'Toole then doubled their advantage three minutes before the break before Marc Richards headed home a Matt Taylor free-kick three minutes after the restart.

Chesterfield clawed one back in the 54th minute, but the second half developed into a scrappy affair.

Edinburgh said the aim was to improve his side's performance in the second 45.

"I believe as this team becomes fitter and gains more playing experience we can take [our performance] in the first half into the second half," he said.

Earlier he told reporters he hopes to have Gabriel Zakuani and Alex Revell back for Saturday's match against Southend.

The south Northamptonshire hospital served people in the town for more than 130 years, but the decision was taken in 2015 to close it.

There'll also be a minor injuries unit and a cafe. These detailed plans will now have to get planning approval before building can start.

  7. Northamptonshire care bed shortage 'could hit hospitals'published at 11:49 Greenwich Mean Time 13 February 2017

A lack of care home beds in Northamptonshire could be "disastrous" for local hospitals, says a letter to local MPs from the group representing the county's private care home providers.

    Northampton General Hospital

Northamptonshire Association of Registered Care Homes (NorArch), external says the county council needs to pay more for the provision of care beds.

The letter says over the last 20 years there has been no increase in the amount paid per care home resident by Northamptonshire County Council, external, which after allowing for inflation means a real-term decrease in funding.

It says the service has reached a "tipping point" and it may not be able to provide the beds for the county at the present rate of funding.

This could mean a shortage of beds in care homes in the county, leading to problems for local hospitals - such as Northampton (pictured) and Kettering hospitals - hoping to discharge patients to care homes.

The county council says it plans to invest more money in adult social care in the next financial year.

"We know the challenges on services. It's about us trying to think of new ways of supporting service users."

It will be run jointly by the NHS health trust and the charity Mind.

A report to the council says it hopes efficiency savings and reduction in duplication of services could help achieve the cuts.

The council said any changes to services will be "carefully managed", but the council must have the "ability to restructure the workforce in a timely manner".

When the plans were first put forward, county council cabinet member for children's services, Matthew Golby, said: "At present, it is often the case that families have a number of professionals offering support, and at a time when our budgets are under increasing pressure, we have to be sure we are providing value-for-money services.

"We are committed to supporting families and we will continue to do this through existing services, including focused family interventions."
