It will continue its lobbying at a meeting with the operator, East Midland Trains, later this month.

  5. County council leader 'surprised' by bypass announcementpublished at 15:29 Greenwich Mean Time 9 March 2017

    Kate Bradbrook
    BBC Look East

The leader of Northamptonshire County Council has said the £7.9m from the government for a north-west bypass for Northampton "won't actually cover the whole cost of the scheme".

Conservative councillor Heather Smith, who said she was "surprised" by the announcement, told me she would "have to look at the detail" of the grant.

Mrs Smith said the money "would help us make a start" on the road, which will connect the A428 Harlestone Road with the A5199 Welford Road.

She told me the infrastructure was needed before planned new housing developments were built.

  7. Care for disabled man would be 'more than £6,500' a month if house plans turned down published at 13:27 Greenwich Mean Time 9 March 2017

    Martin Heath
    BBC Radio Northampton

The son of a man with motor neurone disease says his father needs a "truly accessible house that fits the family".

Duncan Greenaway says that unless they are given permission to create a new five-bedroom house for his father, Paul Robinson, in Rothershorpe he will have to go into care.

The house would be alongside the existing cottage, but it is likely councillors will turn it down due to it being considered "visually intrusive".

    Duncan greenway

Mr Greenway (pictured) told me there was a "desperate" shortage of care places in Northamptonshire and that the cost of putting his father in a care home would be more than "£6,500 a month".

South Northamptonshire Council would not comment on the case before today's meeting.

  8. Accessible house for MND sufferer may be turned down because it's 'visually intrusive' published at 12:51 Greenwich Mean Time 9 March 2017

    Martin Heath

The family of a disabled man in the south of the county say he may be forced to leave his home if politicians don't allow an accessible house to be built for him.

But councillors are being advised to turn down the plans later today. Officials say the modern building would be "visually intrusive" in an historical village.

South Northamptonshire councillors meet at 14:15 to discuss the plans.

Alan Brown, from Desborough and is based in Kettering, is back at work now and admitted to "getting emotional" and crying after some incidents. But he said distressing moments were "put to the back" of his mind.

    Emas

Mr Brown said that after six counselling sessions, EMAS stopped funding his therapy, and he felt "dumped".

However, he reflects now that "there is only so much EMAS can do, the sessions are not cheap".

He told me that the service was doing what it could, saying "there are things in place" to help with stress.

Mr Brown said that EMAS now has more staff, but sometimes 12 hour shifts can turn into 13 or 14 hours with late call outs.

"That with the abusive patients you get, it takes it toll," he said.

    Pete Cooper
    BBC Local Live

The number of ambulance staff in the East Midlands taking time off due to stress and mental health problems has almost doubled in the past five years.

    emas

Figures obtained by the BBC found that 518 members of staff were off with stress and mental health issues in 2015/16.

This compares with 271 in 2011/12.

The figures show a consistent rise:

    • 2012/2013 – 270
    • 2013/2014 – 351
    • 2014/2015 – 485

The union UNISON has said this rise in the number of people going off with stress is because of extra targets and a lack of resources.
