    The rough sleepers in Station Street are being looked after by FightBack - a group of Nottingham-based activists who say they also have links to vigilante hackers group, Anonymous

    They have called it "absolutely disgraceful" for the council to claim most of them were not from the city or homeless.

    Over a 44-year career Polly has played a key role in some of the county's most high-profile murder investigations.

    The former Stubbin Wood School building in Langwith, which has been empty since the school moved to a new site in 2013, is to be demolished.

  8. Sport retailer to pay minimum wage in new yearpublished at 16:03

    Sports Direct, which has its headquarters in Shirebrook, has announced it will pay its staff more than the minimum wage.

    The company said the new pay rate for its staff will take effect from tomorrow.

    The retailer has come under fire this year for not paying staff enough and the terms and conditions for agency workers.

  10. Tony Martin 'held over gun possession'published at 15:54

    Farmer Tony Martin, who was jailed after a fatal shooting in 1999, has been arrested on suspicion of illegal firearm possession, the BBC understands.

    He was jailed for life in April 2000 for the murder of 16-year-old Fred Barras, from Newark, who died of gunshot wounds during a burglary at Mr Martin's isolated Victorian farmhouse in Norfolk.

    Mr Martin’s murder conviction was later reduced to manslaughter, and he was released from jail in 2003.

  12. Reserve 'stock take' finds new insect speciespublished at 15:32

    Nottinghamshire wildlife expert, Tim Sexton, has found more than 1,000 organisms at Attenborough Nature Reserve this year.

     During his "stock take" he also found 10 new species of insect for the county.

    Mr Sexton said he was surprised by the "sheer number of species" he found, 305 of which were new to the reserve.

  14. Some campers are not homeless, says charitypublished at 15:06

    Nottingham homeless charity Framework has told us they helped two people at the camp who were homeless to find accommodation but a "significant proportion" of the protesters already had housing.

    Chief executive Andrew Redfern, said: "We are concerned some may be putting themselves at risk of homelessness by choosing to sleep in the tents rather than occupy the accommodation they have."

    The charity said it did not support the opening up of warehouses, factories or other empty buildings as a response to homeslessness, as prevention work and offering specialist accommodation is seen as more effective.

  16. Protester's 'contempt' for council and justice systempublished at 14:32

    Joe Public, 48, who's homeless himself (and yes that's his real name) represented the group of rough sleepers in court this morning.

    He said: “I have nothing but contempt for the lack of compassion from Nottingham City Council and the justice system.

    “They’ve abandoned these homeless people.”

  17. Station Street camp has been a nuisance says councilpublished at 14:16

    Nottingham City Council says it's "disappointed" it has had to take legal action against the people camping in Station Street, but they needed to be moved in order to carry on with roadworks in the street.

    A spokesman said they hoped now the encampment had been deemed illegal in court, the protesters would "move on of their own accord".

    He added: "Their presence has caused a nuisance to local businesses and incurred unnecessary legal and clean-up costs to local taxpayers."

  19. Damehood for academy bosspublished at 13:41

    Susan Jowett, chief executive of the Spencer Academies Trust, based in Stapleford, will become a dame in recognition of her services to education.

    She has worked in teaching for more than 40 years and moved to Nottingham in 2004 to become principal at George Spencer School and Technology College, helping it become one of the first outstanding academy conversions a few years later.

    There's also an MBE for Peter Stephens, who runs the Nottingham building company John A Stephens Limited and has been honoured for services to business and the community in Nottingham.  

  20. How are you getting home tonight?published at 13:23

    If you're planning a big new year night out in Nottingham tonight, it shouldn't be too difficult getting home. 

    Our main public transport operators - Trent Barton, external, Nottingham City Transport , externaland NET, external are all running extra services after midnight, with some as late as 03:15.

    But if you're coming into Nottingham, it's worth noting that many regular bus services will wrap up at around 20:00.
