    Yesterday we reported on how Adeel Ulhaq from Sutton-in-Ashfield had been sentenced to six years in prison for helping a teenager to travel to Syria to fight with Islamic extremists and funding terrorism after he claimed to be raising money for charity.

    Shahid Bashir from the Nottingham-based charity, Muslim Hands fears cases like this could make people less likely to support genuine causes. 

    "Any story of this kind is potentially harmful to the sector," he said. "It damages public confidence and we have taken a lot of precaution in how we fundraise."

    Walking rugby is said to be a fun way for people who want to keep fit but can't run around a field to get involved in some form.

    Frankie Freeman, multisport development officer at Broxtowe Borough Council, said she was inspired by the Rugby World Cup in October to come up with the game.

    The council has started a 10-week trial with the Nottingham Casuals RFC and hope other clubs around the county will get involved too if it proves popular.

    Christine Lam, a 5th year medical student in Nottingham, appeared in a parody music video, external back in November aimed at Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt.

    She's been telling us this morning the proposed contract for junior doctors leaves them with no choice.

    She said they already worked weekends and it would be unfair to consider Saturday to be a "normal working day" because they won't have the same administrative support as they get in the week.

    Christine is from Canada and says the proposed contract means she may choose to work abroad and that a lot of her colleagues are considering going to other countries where "doctors are respected".

    Well, in terms of the general increase in referrals, GIDS said there could be a number of reasons, but increased awareness and acceptance of gender issues - particularly via the media and social networks - was a likely factor.

    Nottingham Panthers defenceman Sam Oakford will make his Great Britain debut this afternoon, as the national side play the Netherlands in their first match at the Winter Olympic pre-qualifying tournament in Cortina, Italy.

    Oakford is one of six Panthers players in the squad, and received his call-up as late as Sunday.

    He said: “Two, three years ago, when I was sat in an office doing photocopying and making teas for people, I wasn't too sure that I'd get to represent a great club like Nottingham, let alone be in the national team set-up, so for me to come here, it's just an amazing experience for me and I can't wait.”

    A second 24-hour strike by junior doctors ended earlier. They walked out at 08:00 yesterday in a dispute over their contracts and working hours.

    This morning, the British Medical Association says it has rejected a final offer made by the government to settle the dispute but ministers could impose the terms of the contract within days.

    Here's a little bit more of what Nottinghamshire County Council have had to say about the five-year-old boy returning to school as a girl. 

    Colin Pettigrew, the authority's director for children, families and cultural services, said: "Transgender is a characteristic protected by law and therefore head teachers across England continue to, and are required to, agree a clear plan to support the needs of transgender children and young people."

    The case of a five-year-old boy returning to school in Nottinghamshire as a girl, external has highlighted the number of young people being referred to the NHS with gender identity issues.

    Figures obtained by BBC East Midlands online show the number of referrals has increased by 930% in six years. 

    The Gender Identity Development Service (GIDS) said 969 under-18s were referred in the UK in 2015-16, including nearly 200 aged 12 or under.

    Referrals are up from just 94 in 2009-2010.
