    Officers in Eastwood have been searching bins around the street where a serious assault was reported last night, according to the Nottingham Post., external

    A man is in hospital with "serious injuries" after an alleged attack yesterday evening, the force said.

    More now on the police incident in Eastwood...

    They were called to an address in Ryemere Close last night at about 19:45 after reports of a serious assault.

    A 28-year-old man suffered serious injuries and is in hospital.

    Earlier Broxtowe Borough Council said bins would not be collected in five nearby streets, external because of a "serious police incident".

    If you're travelling into Nottingham tomorrow night, you might want to avoid Huntingdon Street.

    Work is due to start, external to improve Nottingham's District Heating scheme from St Ann's Street to Union Road, crossing Huntingdon Street for the rest of the week between 7pm and 6am.

    It's exploratory work ahead of the main work which starts on Friday 25 March for five weeks, with the works being undertaken during normal daytime hours. 

    The work includes upgrading existing pipework.

    A Nottingham cafe is to receive nearly £300,000 from the Big Lottery Fund to expand training and employment programmes.

    The Cafe Sobar Society is one of 38 organisations in the East Midlands to receive a share of £800,000.

    It provides an alcohol free venue for people recovering from drug and alcohol addictions.

    The Nottingham Panthers signed two defencemen on deadline day. 

    Former NHL player Kevin Quick signed on until the end of the season late in the day.

    Earlier on they brought in Franklin MacDonald, who also signed until the end of the current campaign.

    Some stats about the debt that both the Sherwood Forest and Nottingham University Hospitals are carrying:

    • The combined deficit of the two trusts was about £100m in 2015
    • The Sherwood trust has a £2.5bn debt from a PFI deal that runs to 2034
    • It was paying more than £3m a month in payments as part of the deal

    The merger will create one of the biggest trusts in the country outside of London with 18,500 employees serving a population of almost 3m across Nottinghamshire and elsewhere in the East Midlands.

    Here's what Anna Soubry, the Broxtowe MP, has had to say about cyclists' problems along the Beeston tramlines.

    Experienced and responsible cyclists have suffered serious injuries after their wheels got caught in the tram tracks. High/Chilwell Road in Beeston is dangerous for cyclists. We need measures to make it safe, including better signs. We can't go on with so many cyclists getting injured and I hope everyone will agree it's now imperative we make the road safe for cyclists."

    Cycling along tram tracks can be a little unnerving - and the new tramline in Beeston appears to be causing some problems.

    Engineers are being asked to make urgent improvements along the Chilwell Road stretch.

    A decision over whether or not to close the Beckhampton Centre for pregnant schoolgirls in Nottingham - won't be known until next week.

    Supporters gathered outside Loxley House as the ruling Labour group on Nottingham City Council voted last night on the controversial plans in a closed meeting.

    But the outcome won't be made public until the council's executive board meets.

  18. NHS trusts merger: Bosses to visit hospitalspublished at 09:25 Greenwich Mean Time 16 February 2016

    The chief executives of both Nottingham and Sherwood Forest trusts, Peter Homa and Peter Herring, will be visiting staff at Newark and King's Mill hospitals today to go through the detail of this deal. 

    There's still no news on possible job losses.

    Mr Herring said: "There is potential for fewer jobs but, given that we've got 20,000 staff between us, turnover will allow us to accommodate any changes and hopefully minimise any redundancies."
