    At least the rain has helped to cover up the numerous potholes but it might be a bumpy ride along this lane.

    A trip down Memory Lane for those old enough to remember - it's been 30 years since the second series of Auf Wiedersehen Pet was broadcast.

    The comedy-drama, which was partly filmed in Nottinghamshire, was one of the most popular shows of the '80s.

  9. Pipe burst: Council help 'wasn't required'published at 11:29

    Severn Trent refused the county council's offer of help following the major pipe burst yesterday, its leader said.

    About 16,000 people were left without water for 12 hours in the Bingham and Radcliffe area.

    Alan Rhodes said: "We could well have helped with water bowsers, to ensure vulnerable householders were properly catered for and cared for, we could have helped with any evacuations that may have been necessary.

    "But we were told none of that was required."

    Supt Ted Antill said he is waiting to speak to two women, who were hospitalised after taking drugs in Nottingham at the weekend.

    He said he believes they took MDMA but they've not secured any for analysis.

    "It's absolutely not clear where they had taken those substances or where they'd obtained them," he said.

    "Both are now improving - one is out of intensive care and it's expected the other will move onto a normal ward in next 24 to 36 hours."

    Sally Hall said she drove her 4X4 through what she thought was a puddle in Epperstone yesterday morning but it turned out to be a sinkhole.

    "The water picked me up and dragged me into the hole," she said.

    "It was a bit frightening trying to get out - it was right over the top of the bonnet.

    "It was effecting the electrics, so the car kept locking and unlocking intermittently so it was a bit difficult trying to get out."

    Police have made two arrests after two women became seriously ill after taking drugs in Nottingham at the weekend.

    Supt Ted Antill said he believes the drugs they took were MDMA, or ecstasy.

    "If you have bought any drugs, particularly if you purchased them recently, do not take them," he said.

    The burst pipe didn't just suck a car into a sinkhole yesterday - a lot of Epperstone village was left under water.

    James Gunn woke at about 05:00 to find his home and garden flooded.

    He said the last time it happened was 30 years ago.

    "It's a crisis in some ways, but the village has reacted marvellously," he said.

    Here's what Severn Trent's Jonathan Smith had to say about the 12-hour lack of water in Bingham, Radcliffe and other Notts villages yesterday.

    "We were working with the guys who provide bottled water to us but we couldn't get sufficient supplies until 21:00 and obviously a lot of people had their supplies back on by then," he said.
