    Nottinghamshire County Council has said more than 90% of parents have secured a place at their first preferred primary school for their children in September.

    The authority's contacted 9,275 parents to let them know which school their son or daughter is to attend. 

    It said 98% of parents got a place at one of their preferred schools – an increase on last year.

    However, 207 parents have been offered a place at a school they didn’t state on their application.

    East Midlands Trains said the thefts were "really frustrating".

    “Anybody who has been disrupted on our services may be entitled to compensation for the inconvenience caused, and information on our Delay Repay compensation scheme can be found at eastmidlandstrains.co.uk/information/delay-repay," said acting customer experience director, Andrew Conroy.

    The cable thefts, external which caused delay misery for passengers and cost Network Rail nearly £120,000 happened:

    • West of Nottingham city centre on 12 March, 18 March and 16 April

    British Transport Police said extra patrols are being carried out across the area in a bid to catch and deter criminals.

    Rail bosses in Nottinghamshire have made a fresh appeal to find cable thieves after lines were struck seven times in recent weeks, causing considerable delays for passengers. 

    The latest was this weekend leading to travel misery for thousands of passengers caught up in delays and cancellations.

    Network Rail says in the last month:

    • 331 passenger services and 27 freight/engineering trains were delayed or cancelled
    • There were 2,654 minutes of disruption for passengers
    • And a cost to the railway of £119,165

    A bit surprising, maybe? Andrew Redfern from the Nottingham homelessness charity, Framework, doesn't think the posters needed to be changed.

    "What it's basically saying is there are better ways of helping than by giving to people who beg and I think that's entirely right," he said.

    Punk band The King Blues said they received thousands of likes on Facebook , externalwhen they said the council was using money saved from closing hostels to "demonise the homeless".

    "These posters... aren't saying here are homeless shelters you can donate to or some food banks where you can buy extra tins - they are just vilifying," lead singer Itch, said.

    The Give Smart campaign, led by the city council and the police, is aimed at stopping problem begging in Nottingham. 

    The first wave of adverts, which had captions like "Begging: Watch your money go up in smoke", caused controversy after critics said they demonised the homeless.

    Thousands of people signed a petition against the posters and dozens were torn down or defaced.

    The new campaign features altered wording and urges donations to charity, saying things like "people who beg often have serious drug or alcohol problems".

    Remember the storm over posters in Nottingham city centre about homelessness?

    The city council came under fire for the original adverts, which warned shoppers money given to beggars would "go up in smoke".

    Well the council has been out replacing the old ones (pictured left) with new ones that have a different wording (pictured right).

    The council said it's taken on board the reaction to the posters and altered the message, although the first batch remain on bins across the city.
