    "A group of us were taking nature photos in Wollaton Park," he said. 

    "Someone put some seeds in a red bottle top, the squirrel took it into the tree and dropped it when it had finished eating."

    Work has begun on a bridge that will one day carry heritage steam trains over the Midland Mainline.

    The 30-metre structure (artist's impression above), which should be completed by the autumn, is part of the wider restoration of the Great Central Railway.  

    The railway line, between Leicester and Nottingham, was left with a 500m gap after infrastructure, including bridges, were removed.

    East Midlands Trains say, external there's been a failure of the electricity supply at the Doncaster signal box, which is causing problems:

    • Trains are unable to run between Doncaster and Lincoln Central on the Doncaster-Peterborough route
    • No service between Lincoln and Newark Northgate on the Grimsby/Lincoln-Leicester route
    • Trains on the Norwich/Nottingham/Liverpool line are being diverted and won't stop at Grantham
    • Nottingham/Grantham/Skegness trains won't stop at Grantham either

    A report in the Scotsman newspaper, external suggests that the Rangers chairman, Dave King, is considering legal action against his former manager, Mark Warburton over his departure from the club.

    The attack has left the cockle man contemplating retirement.

    "It crossed my mind, but why should I? I had two days off and the phone kept ringing," he said.

    "People love me in Nottingham. I want to carry on, I don't want to be sitting at home, I want to be mixing with people."

    He said he has "struggled" on but has cut down his hours due to the pain from his ribs.

    Dave Bartram has sold seafood seven days a week since 1964, when he worked for a local fishmonger.

    Despite being 60 miles from the sea, he's thought to be the last cockle man in the country.

    In 2014 two Nottingham filmmakers made a short film about his life (pictured above). 

    He's been attacked a number of times over the years, some of which he fended off with his basket.

    A drunken reveller once tried to stab him with a pair of scissors but missed, puncturing his prawn sauce bottle instead

    Someone even once put a firework in his basket!

    If you've ever been out in Nottingham's pubs of an evening you may well have caught sight of a man clad in white holding a basket of seafood...

    The cockle man, Dave Bartram, has been pounding the streets of the city selling prawns, mussels and cockles to drinkers for an incredible 50 years with barely a day off.

    Shockingly, a couple of weeks ago the 70-year-old said he suffered broken ribs after he was beaten up in an attempted robbery.

    And when he visited a doctor he was told he had cancer.

    "It's serious, but not that serious, they've got it [the cancer] early, I don't need chemo," he said.

    "[The robbers] have done me a favour."

    Police have named a man murdered outside a shop in St Ann's as Reuben Morris-Laing - and they've confirmed it was a  stabbing.

    The 21-year-old was found outside Premier Express in Robin Hood Way on Wednesday night and later died from his injuries. 

    Police have said they've increased patrols in St Ann's to reassure residents.
