    Final approval has been given to hand ten of Derby's 15 libraries over to volunteers.

    The shake-up, external - aimed at saving the city council £700,000 a year - will also see Derby's Central Library relocated from its current Wardwick base to the Council House on Corporation Street.

    It will mean the loss of 46 jobs - 39 library staff and seven cleaners.

    The 10 libraries set to be managed by volunteers are Chellaston, Sinfin, Chaddesden, Blagreaves, Allestree, Allenton, Mackworth, Spondon, Springwood and Derwent.

    The council will run Central Library (to be renamed Riverside LIbrary after its move), Local Studies Library, Alvaston, Pear Tree and Mickleover.

    The building currently housing Derby's Central Library will be handed to Derby Museums Trust and may be used as a space for events.

    In case you missed it yesterday, this remarkable phone call is well worth a listen.

    It features the voice of Stacey White, a Nottingham woman who's made hundreds of abusive 999 calls over the past six years.

    East Midlands Ambulance Service said her actions had cost the NHS £31,000 in the past year alone. She's now been jailed for the offence.

    If you live in Sutton-in-Ashfield you may have woken to find you have no water or low pressure this morning.

    Severn Trent says the problem has been caused by a burst water pipe at the junction of Kirkby Road and Spring Road, external and its engineers are at the scene.

  4. Teenage cyclist seriously injured in Little Eaton crashpublished at 08:19 British Summer Time 13 July 2017

    A 13-year-old cyclist was seriously injured in a crash in Derby last night.

    The boy was taken to the Queen's Medical Centre in Nottingham after colliding with a Volkswagen Polo on Alfreton Road in Little Eaton at about 18:00.

    The crash led to a section of the road being closed for about four hours.

    A union says it would like to see more ethnic minority teachers in Leicester.

    Research by the BBC found 70% of children in the city's schools came from minority backgrounds but the figure for teachers was below 30% - one of the largest imbalances in England.

    Patrick Roach, deputy secretary of the NASUWT, said: "We need to have schools that are reflective of the communities they serve.

    "We should also have schools which draw in the best possible talent from young graduates and the population at large who can deliver the best education for children and young people."

  6. Thomas Burns killing: Man charged with manslaughterpublished at 08:00 British Summer Time 13 July 2017

    A man has been charged with the manslaughter of Thomas Burns, external, who died after being assaulted in Hyson Green on Sunday morning.

    Mark Purdy, 39, of Coxmoor Court in Bestwood, has also been charged with affray and is due to appear before magistrates this morning.
