An inquest jury’s been hearing how a child sex offender was found hanged in his cell at Nottingham prison.
Ricky Slade, 30, of no fixed address, had been arrested after a self-styled "paedophile hunting" group filmed a confrontation with him.
Slade thought he had been grooming children under 16 for sexual purposes when in fact he had been communicating with members of the group.
The assistant coroner, Ivan Cartwright, said such confrontation clips could "obtain viral status".
But community nurse Jonathan Berry, who assessed Slade, said he seemed "unaware of how these groups worked". He described Slade as "very guarded" making it "difficult to assess his anxieties".
Last year, Slade was sent to prison after failing to turn up for sentencing for three counts of attempting to incite a child under 13 to engage in sexual activity and one count of attempting to meet a child under 16 following grooming.
The guard who took him, Simon Mather, told the inquest "the colour drained from Slade's face" and that he looked "scared and frightened" and was "deeply upset and started crying".
He was classed as a vulnerable prisoner because of his offences and put in a cell on Delta Wing. Eight days later on 3 February he was found hanged in his cell.
Ricky Slade had looked "deeply upset and started crying" after his arrest, an inquest hears.
