    A man who went on a 40-minute spree of violence in Sutton-in-Ashfield earlier this year has been jailed, external.

    Aaron Hooton, 28, carried out two knifepoint robberies at convenience stores in the town on Sunday 22 April before attempting to assault a woman in a car and then using a knife to damage a water pipe at an allotment.

    Hooton, of Clare Road in the town, pleaded guilty at Nottingham Crown Court to two counts of robbery, GBH, affray, possession of a bladed article and damaging property.

    He was jailed for eight years and ordered to pay a £170 victim surcharge.

    Firefighters say they reached an outdoor fire next to Melton Road in Langham, near Oakham, just in time to stop it spreading.

    The fire service said it wasn't yet known if the blaze, which started yesterday afternoon and burnt grass and a hedgerow, was deliberate or accidental.

    Fire crews from Mansfield and Edwinstowe are currently dealing with a forest fire in Clipstone, external.

    The blaze, which covers an area about 200 square metres in size, is believed to have been started by careless handling of lighting materials at a makeshift illegal campsite (pictured in third photo).

    Police are searching for a 17-year-old girl from Leicester who's been missing for five days, external.

    Chloe Weston was last seen in the Braunstone Avenue area at about 19:00 on Friday and her family are worried about her safety.

    Anyone who knows where she might be has been asked to call police on 101.

    A doctor struck off over the death of a six-year-old boy is due to start her appeal against the decision today.

    Jack Adcock died from septic shock at Leicester Royal Infirmary in 2011, hours after being admitted with sickness and vomiting.

    Dr Hadiza Bawa-Garba was dismissed by the GMC due to mistakes in Jack's care, and this was upheld by the High Court.

    But doctors protested, claiming she had been made a scapegoat for understaffed hospitals and new guidelines were later issued to protect medics and patients.

    The hearing at the Court of Appeal is expected to last two days.

    A retired fertility expert from Nottinghamshire has spoken of helping to deliver the world's first IVF baby 40 years ago.

    John Webster said the birth of Louise Brown in July 1978 was a more significant development for mankind than the moon landings.

    The remains of 17th Century gardens at Chatsworth House have been revealed thanks to the recent hot weather.

    The ornate designs, which date back to 1699, can be seen under the scorched grass on the South Lawn.

    Steve Porter, Chatsworth's head of gardens, said: "It wasn't a lost landscape or anything - we knew it was there.

    "But the fact is, it's normally a green lawn so everything is hidden underneath so it's not visible.

    "The scorched and dry weather we're suffering at the moment has meant that the areas where there were paths and things underneath are showing up nice and clearly now so you have the nice defined pattern of flowerbeds and paths."
