    This Staffordshire bull terrier cross puppy, found tied to a bin in Staveley, has attracted lots of comments on Facebook, external.

    His cute looks certainly haven't gone unnoticed.

    Two men have been arrested in connection with firearms offences.

    A 36-year-old and a 29-year-old were arrested this morning on suspicion of possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear or violence in the Radford area on 12 October.

    A 48-year-old man and a 19-year-old woman were also arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.

    Beeston Town Hall is being sold to an evangelical church for just under £500,000.

    Broxtowe Borough Council claims the sale will save them £1m, which could be used to fund "front-line services".

    Council leader Richard Jackson has said Cornerstone Redeemer Church plans to create a new community hub for the people of Beeston.

    The next steps will include drawing up contracts and a planning application being submitted for any changes to the building.

    A primary school in the Staffordshire Moorlands that was closed when it had just seven pupils has been sold off by the county council.

    Flash Church of England Primary School shut in 2012 because the authority couldn't afford to keep it open with failing student numbers.

    Instead, it found alternative schools for the pupils.

    Now, the council's agreed to sell it for an undisclosed amount.

    A CCTV appeal has been issued by police investigating a burglary at the home of an 88-year-old woman who died a fortnight later, external.

    Det Sgt Simon Carter: "Finding out who did this to Audrey weeks before she passed away will hopefully give the family some closure."

    The elderly woman had her purse stolen when the suspect broke into her Bestwood Road home in Bulwell through a rear door and searched the property.

    She was not injured in the 29 September break-in but died two weeks later.

    North West Leicestershire District Council is considering the implications of a no-deal Brexit for East Midlands Airport.

    Sean Sheahan asked leader, Richard Blunt, if the authority has a plan in place at a recent meeting.

    A "no deal" exit would see the UK and EU sever ties on 29 March next year with no agreement in place over what the future of our relationship with the EU will look like.

    Mr Blunt said: "The chief executive sits on the border control local authority steering group and is working in partnership with East Midlands Airport and key stakeholders to ensure all border-related changes are identified and planned for in the event of a no deal scenario."

    Neither Leicestershire County Council or Leicester City Council has a plan drawn up in the event of no deal.

    Three men have appeared in court today accused of murder over an explosion which killed five people.

    Aram Kurd, Hawkar Hassan and Arkan Ali deny five counts of murder and manslaughter in relation to the explosion on Hinckley Road on 25 February.

    They also deny a new charge of conspiracy to commit fraud by false representation.

    A flat and a Polish supermarket were destroyed in the blast.

    The five people who died were 22-year-old shop worker Viktorija Ijevleva, Mary Ragoobar, 46, and her sons Shane Ragoobeer, 18, and Sean Ragoobeer, 17, and Shane's girlfriend Leah Beth Reek, 18.

    Footage has been released of a man police want to speak to about a series of alleged sexual assaults carried out by a cyclist as he rides past women.

    Police said they believed the same person was responsible for 11 assaults reported by women in Derby city centre over the past few months.

    Det Sgt Ryan Hockley said: “All the reports are similar in that a man cycles up behind the victim and sexually assaults them by touching."

    Police say they're not treating the death of a man discovered in a car found burning in Carlton yesterday as suspicious.

    The man's body was found by firefighters after the car was alight in Garden City, a no-through road, at about 02:00.

    This Staffordshire bull terrier cross puppy was found "dumped like rubbish" by binmen in Derbyshire last week.

    The nine-week-old was tied to commercial bins at the back of some shops on the High Street in Staveley.

    He is now being looked after by the RSPCA’s Chesterfield branch where he has been named Oscar after the Sesame Street character Oscar the Grouch who lived in a bin.

    The animal charity said: "He is in good condition and is a lovely, friendly-natured little dog. It is so sad that someone chose to tie him up and leave him in such a vulnerable state."

    The RSPCA has appealed for anyone with information on who may have dumped the puppy to come forward.

    A 20-year-old man from Barleythorpe has pleaded guilty to 11 sexual offences against six young girls.

    At Leicester Crown Court yesterday Ryan Steadman, from Stud Road, admitted causing a child to watch a sexual act, inciting a child to engage in sexual activity and sexual activity with a child.

    Steadman was arrested in February after a 14-year-old girl travelled to Oakham to meet him after chatting on social media.

    All 11 of the offences happened between 2015 and 2018. He's due to be sentenced on 14 December.

    Day nine of the Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse has begun at the Oval Cricket Ground.

    Today’s first witness is Michelle Foster - a former residential support worker at Beechwood Community Home in Mapperley. She said she applied for the job because she used to be a child in care there.

    Ms Foster said that overcrowding at Beechwood created a “toxic mix" where children who had serially sexually offended against other children were mixed in with children with disabilities.

    She said there was also a “staffing crisis” at Beechwood because so many staff were “off sick, suspended or under investigation”. She said many staff were untrained and some would treat children like you’d treat a "sick cat”.

    An 18-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a body was found at a house in Leicester.

    Police were called to Southfields Drive at 22:15 yesterday to reports of an altercation and found a man's body inside a house on the street, who is yet to be identified.

    The arrested man remains in police custody.

    The property has been cordoned off for forensic examination.

    A woman has been taken to hospital following a crash in Tansley this morning.

    The collision on Nottingham Road near Matlock involved three cars and fire crews had to remove a woman from her vehicle.

    She was later taken to Sheffield Northern General Hospital by East Midlands Ambulance Service.

    The road remains closed while Derbyshire Police recover the cars.

    Two men have been taken to hospital after a double stabbing in Melton Mowbray last night.

    One man, aged 32, was taken to the Queen's Medical Centre in Nottingham with injuries that are believed to be life-threatening after police were called to reports of a stabbing in Bentley Street, Melton Mowbray at 23:30.

    Another man, 33, was taken to the Leicester Royal Infirmary with injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening.

    Both he and an 18-year-old man have been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm and remain in custody.

    A cordon remains in place on Bentley Street.
