    Leicester Tigers hopes of reaching the knockout stage of the Champions Cup are all but over following a defeat against Racing 92 at Welford Road yesterday.

    The result means Leicester sit third in the pool, eight points behind second place Ulster with just two games left to play.

    The loss was Leicester's eighth in a row, their worst run since 1975, as their torrid season continues.

    A woman has been taken to hospital after she crashed into a railway bridge this morning.

    The Renault Clio hit the bridge at about 01:20 on Derby Road, just south of Wirksworth.

    The driver, a 21-year-old woman, was taken to hospital with "serious injuries."

    The road was closed overnight and reopened just after 08:00 this morning.

    A school has been forced to closed today because it has no heating.

    Marlpool Infant School in Prospect Road, Heanor, will be closed today and a message on the school's website says there will be further updates later on.

    This is the scene in Church Road in Denby, which has been closed to traffic - but not pedestrians - after what is being described as a "serious collision".

    We're awaiting further information from Derbyshire Police, who said the road was likely to remain closed for some time.

    An ATM machine was stolen from a Nationwide branch in Earl Shilton this morning after a digger smashed through the front of the building.

    An employee at the branch told me that the break-in happened at 04:30 and that a cash machine was taken, though it is not known how much money was taken.

    Leicestershire Police said they had found the ATM nearby along with three vehicles believed to have been used in the theft.

    No arrests have been made.

    A 24-year-old man was arrested yesterday following reports of gunshots in Aspley.

    Armed police were called to Minver Crescent on Thursday following the reports.

    Three other men, aged 46, 36 and 36, were arrested on Thursday afternoon and have all been bailed until 8 January.

    More than ten homeless people will be celebrating Christmas in their own homes this year thanks to a charity project.

    Four terraced houses in Leicester have been renovated into apartments for people currently living in crisis accommodation.

    The new project will house thirteen people, most of whom have recently slept rough, with the first tenants due to move in time for Christmas.

    Prakash Bhojani, 70, funded the project and will now lease the houses to Action Homeless for a "nominal fee".

    "We want this to be the first step to people getting back on track, it's important that the homes help them to do that.

    "I wanted to bring these properties into use and to provide modern and pleasant facilities for the people who will live there

    A digger has smashed into a building society in an apparent ram-raid.

    The front of the Nationwide in Earl Shilton has been destroyed in what looks like a targeted attack at about 05:00 today.

    A vicar has said that "everyone will be affected" by a house fire in Collingham which killed a mother and her two children.

    Justine Collison, 33, and her children Isabella, 8, and Harvey, 5, died in the fire at their home in Woodhill Road and their father Gavin remains in hospital.

    The Reverend Mandy Cartwright, rector of All Saints Church, said: "I think everyone will be affected by this fire.

    "To be able to talk about that will be really important and I think having church open will offer a place for that to everyone in the community to be aware about that and ready and willing to lend a listening ear."

    Billy Monger, who lost both his legs after a Formula 4 crash, won the Helen Rollason Award at the BBC Sports Personality of the Year show last night.

    Monger, 19, returned to racing in March, less than a year after the smash at Donington Park in April 2017.

    The award recognises outstanding achievement in the face of adversity and was introduced in 1999 in memory of BBC Sport journalist and presenter Helen Rollason MBE.

    Rail services between Newark Castle and Nottingham are currently out of action because of a points failure.

    The fault means trains cannot run towards Nottingham.

    Network Rail is currently investigating the fault and East Midlands Trains is expecting normal service to resume by 09:00.

    It's a big day for football in the East Midlands, with Derby County hosting local rivals Nottingham Forest at Pride Park this evening.

    He was last seen at the accident and emergency department.
