Climber missing on 'killer mountain'published at 12:55 Greenwich Mean Time 27 February 2019
Concerns are growing for a Derbyshire climber, who is missing on one of the world's highest mountains with his Italian colleague.
Nothing has been heard from Tom Ballard and Daniele Nardi since Sunday. The pair are attempting to reach the summit of Nanga Parbat in Pakistan, the world's ninth highest peak.
The last contact from the pair was on Sunday, from an altitude of around 6,300m. Weather was poor in the area at the time.
Pakistani authorities hope to launch a helicopter search operation, although that has been slowed by the current tensions between Pakistan and India.
Nanga Parbat is notoriously difficult to climb but Tom Ballard is a highly experienced climber.
In 2015 he became the first person ever to solo climb all six major north faces of the Alps in one winter.
He is the son of Alison Hargreaves, who died in 1995 while descending from the summit of K2, the world's second highest mountain - also in Pakistan.
