    A Derbyshire landscaping company is using the canal for the first time to transport its freight and cargo.

    It's using a narrowboat to take 5,000 plants to Birmingham for a regeneration project there, in the hope it will reduce its carbon footprint.

    Sean Goodwin, from Talbot Landscapes, said: "We are reducing our carbon footprint, the fuel cost is less and it just ticks so many boxes from a commercial point of view to use the canal network as a means of transport from A to B."

    Two drivers have been taken to hospital with serious injuries after a crash between two cars in Kirk Langley, Derbyshire this afternoon.

    Police said they were called just after 13:00 to the crash on Ashbourne Road.

    The driver of one car was taken to the QMC in Nottingham by air ambulance and the second was taken to the Royal Derby Hospital.

    The road between the Moor Lane junction and A52 remains closed and the force said it could stay shut for some time.

    Motorists have been advised to avoid the area and take alternative routes.

    A van driver has been critically injured and several other people have been hurt in a four-vehicle crash on the A628 Woodhead Pass in Derbyshire.

    Police said the crash happened at about 12:25 between Tintwistle and Torside Reservoir and involved a van, a lorry, a Volvo S40 and a Ford KA.

    The road has been closed and diversions are in place.
