    Thames Valley Police says it made eight arrests last night following Oxford United's match against Millwall.

    The force says police horses were attacked by supporters before and after the match at the Kassam Stadium.

    A spokesman says more information will be published on the force's website, external soon.

  2. Narrow boat removal work stopped for the daypublished at 14:16 Greenwich Mean Time 3 February 2016

    Attempts to move a stricken narrow boat from the River Thames near Botley Bridge have been called off for the day by the Environment Agency.

    Pumping water from the vessel and and using the tractor to winch it free has failed to successfully move it, and a new effort to use flotation bags to support it will be attempted tomorrow.

    Renters and the city in general would benefit if Oxford's landlords were licensed, the city council says.

    For the past five years, the council has had a licence scheme for houses in multiple occupation (HMO), and now there are plans for new licences for all other rented homes as well.

    A specialist diver is being used this afternoon to try and put cables around a narrow boat which apparently slipped its moorings and became lodged at Botley Bridge.

    Air bags are to be used to give the vessel buoyancy before a tractor is used to attempt to winch it free.

    A 42-year-old Wallingford woman has been charged with fraud after the bank cards of residents in a care facility were used for online shopping, external.

    Four victims had money withdrawn to pay for online clothing and food orders.

    The accused woman is due to appear at Oxford Magistrates' Court on 8 March.

    Five police officers and a paramedic have been commended for their courage and dedication during an emergency response to three murders in Didcot last year.

    Last May, hundreds of officers were involved in the hunt for Jed Allen, whose body was found in woodland in Oxford.

    The six members of the emergency services were recognised for the part they played on that bank holiday weekend, external.

    All of Oxford's 15,000 rental properties could need a licence if plans from Oxford City Council, external are approved.

    The council already demands that shared houses - or Houses of Multiple Occupation - are officially registered and inspected. 

     However, in  future all properties rented out in the city could need a licence costing about £400, in a bid to drive out rogue landlords.

    A narrow boat that is wedged at the Botley Bridge in Oxford is to be winched by a tractor in an attempt to free it from the River Thames.

    The Environment Agency will also pump water from the stricken boat in order to try to re-float it.
