  2. 'The structure is enormous'

    Ed Byard, grew up in the shadow of the power station and runs the website didcotpowerstation.com

    He's been sharing his knowledge about the building which collapsed on BBC Radio Oxford:  

    It's about 300m long and about 60m high...those units in the structure are just cavernous, they're enormously heavy.

  3. No signs of life found as search operation continues

    A fire officer at the scene has said no signs of life have been found yet.

    There have been reports that dogs had reacted to something on the site, but the officer said they haven't picked up any clear signs of life.

    The officer told the BBC that dogs will become interested in areas in this kind of search.

    BBC Reporter Ben Moore says the note accompanying the flowers reads:

    "Rest in peace. To a hardworking soul, from a Didcot resident. Thoughts of those injured and those missing."

  5. Wantage MP Ed Vaizey: Missing men are 'not local'

    MP Ed Vaizey, who represents Didcot, told Howard Bentham on BBC Radio Oxford that he understands that the families of the missing men, and the man who died, are based in the North.

    That is where Coleman and Co, the company carrying out the demolition, is based.

    Mr Vaizey also said the building was being weakened ahead of a demolition in around 10 days time.

    He said the emergency services were doing an "amazing job".

    We're all very upset that someone has lost their life and we're very very concerned that three people remain missing.

  7. Search latest: Unsafe building is hampering search

    A new statement from Oxfordshire County Council says the search is being 'hampered' by the remainder of the building which is "very unstable".

    • An expert from Cheshire with experience of similar collapses is due on the site today
    • Thames Valley Police have taken control of the site
    • Fire services from Buckinghamshire, the West Midlands and Hampshire are helping with the operation.

    The safety of emergency service personnel has to remain our priority, while recognising how hard this must be for families waiting for news of loved ones overnight. Our sympathies are with them, and the family of the person who died here yesterday.

  10. Didcot collapse latest: No change overnight

    Oxfordshire County Council has published an updated statement on its website.

    • Emergency services have reported no change overnight - they are still looking for missing people
    • Sniffer dogs and search equipment, including two drones, are being used
    • Five men with injuries are being treated at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford
    • One is in a "serious but not life-threatening condition", four are in a "stable and non-life threatening condition"

    The county council says it will be releasing more information over the course of the morning. We'll be bringing it to you as soon as we get it.

  11. 'A terrible tragedy' - former power station employee

    A former employee at Didcot Power Station has described yesterday's collapse as "devastating".

    The amount of damage can be seen in aerial footage taken in the hours after the collapse.

    The building itself was over 212 ft high, my understanding is that it's probably about 10,000 - 12,000 tonnes of steel that has come down. It's devastating, I think everyone who worked there has pretty much got fond memories of it...obviously a loss of life is such a terrible tragedy.

  14. What we know so far

    Here is what we know so far following yesterday's collapse at Didcot Power Station:

    • Emergency services were called to Didcot Power A Station at about 16.00 yesterday and a major incident was declared
    • One person has died, three people are missing, and five people are being treated in hospital
    • More than 40 people were treated for dust inhalation
    • The search for those missing continues
    • Didcot A Power Station was due to be demolished in the coming months
    • There was a partial collapse of a building which was roughly 300m (980ft) long
    • The Health and Safety Executive will be conducting an investigation
