United sprung a major surprise in team selection at the weekend with Joe Skarz - previously ruled out for the season with a groin injury - pushed back into the starting line-up, after Jordan Evans's campaign was ended thanks to a broken rib.

    Quote Message

I was very surprised, but I think that is testament to his character and his spirit and the determination that epitomises the general feeling across the squad.

  10. Didcot power station: Owners insist recovery work is ongoingpublished at 11:45 British Summer Time 25 April 2016

RWE Npower has insisted work to recover the bodies of the missing workmen at Didcot power station is continuing seven days a week.

    Didcot power station

Christopher Huxtable, 34, from Swansea, Ken Cresswell, 57, and John Shaw, 61, both from Rotherham, are still missing in the rubble following the partial collapse of the boiler house in February.

The company has confirmed this morning that the remaining part of the building will need to be demolished to allow the recovery work to be completed safely. RWE did not say when the controlled explosive demolition would take place.

    Quote Message

We are deeply aware that the ongoing recovery to find the missing men must be extremely painful for all the families. That’s why our contractors are working 7 days a week 12 hours a day to ensure this is done as quickly as possible.

  11. Remaining part of Didcot power station to be demolishedpublished at 11:28 British Summer Time 25 April 2016

RWE Npower says it does not know when this work will take place, but that the recovery can only be completed safely once the precarious structure has been brought down in a controlled explosive demolition.

The families of those who are missing have been told that this is now the plan.

Christopher Huxtable, 34, from Swansea, Ken Cresswell, 57, and John Shaw, 61, both from Rotherham, are still missing in the rubble.

The body of Michael Collings, 53, from Cleveland, North Yorkshire, was found following the collapse.

    Quote Message

We also understand that any potential work involving further explosive demolition on site causes distress for the families. Having explored other manual options, our experts have made it clear that the quickest and safest way to bring the building down is by controlled explosive demolition, using a methodology such that it ensures the remaining structure falls away from the current debris pile.

  12. 'Moral duty' on restaurants not to pour fat down the drainpublished at 11:05 British Summer Time 25 April 2016

A Thames Water engineer says there is a "moral duty" as well as a legal requirement on restaurants and other food outlets not to pour fat, oil and grease into the city's sewers.

    FatbergImage source, Thames Water

Alex Saunders says the waste turns into a "concrete-like" blockage.

More than 20 tonnes of fat and waste end up in the city's Park End Street sewer alone each year, causing waste water to back up into people's homes and lead to flooding.

    Quote Message

You're not allowed to put it [oils, fat and grease] down the sewer, so by law there's a requirement. But for me there's also a moral duty on food service establishments to not put this down the sewer. The impact to their customers is dramatic.

Our rates are humongous and it would be nice to get some form of compensation, but apart from keeping going there's not an awful lot we can do. They [customers] do everything they can to not come into Oxford and the last week it's been 10 times worse.
