    The government's been urged to come up with a better roadmap for the return of live theatre as one artistic director has said money is "draining out of our bank account".

    Iain Reddihough, from Theatre on the Steps, Bridgnorth, Shropshire, told BBC Shropshire the latest advice from ministers "seems to be a roadmap without any directions".

    The government's five-step plan did not come with dates or monetary help attached.

    Mr Reddihough said the theatre wanted to reopen in September but doing so with a smaller audience due to social distancing would not bring in enough money to cover the costs of a performance.

    "We do need clearer guidelines from the government, we do need some help from the government in terms of not only advice but maybe also financially to enable us to stage performances with reduced audiences."

    A toddler needed surgery after being knocked to the ground by two cyclists.

    The two-year-old girl was with her family walking their dog on a path in Donnington Wood, Telford, on Saturday afternoon when it happened, police said. , external

    The force said the cyclists had ridden through at high speed, knocking her down and leaving her with serious facial injuries.

    Dozens of car drivers were told to leave by police after about 100 got together on an industrial estate.

    Officers were called to the Stafford Park site in Telford on Sunday and said the people involved left "no problem" after being talked to.

    The forced tweeted , externalit was "probably not the right time" for such a gathering due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

  9. RAF Museum set to open with limited visitorspublished at 13:33 British Summer Time 26 June 2020

    The RAF Museum at Cosford in Shropshire has announced it will reopen to visitors on Monday 6 July.

    It will remain free to visit but visitors are being asked to pre-book an arrival time online.

    A one-way visitor system and a limit of the number of people in each building will also be in place.

    Hand sanitiser will be available at the entrance to each hangar and throughout each building, the attraction said.

  10. Man arrested after police motorcyclist injured in pursuitpublished at 11:28 British Summer Time 26 June 2020

    A driver has been arrested after a police motorcyclist was struck after a pursuit in Shropshire.

    West Mercia Police said he sustained minor injuries in the incident near the A458 in Much Wenlock at about 15:30 on Thursday, when he was hit by the car after an initial pursuit.

    The officer was not seriously injured in the collision, but did receive hospital treatment for minor injuries, said the force.

    The driver is in custody having been arrested for multiple offences, it added.

    • A balloon carnival will not go ahead this year in any form after proposals for a smaller scale event due to the pandemic were scrapped. Oswestry Town Council dismissed an idea to pay £7,000 for four balloons to fly over the area for people to watch from their homes after the larger event was cancelled.

    • A new boxing gym has been given permission to open for a two year "probationary" period at a former garage premises in Shrewsbury. Shropshire Councillors said they understood residents' concerns over potential noise from the new facility on Monkmoor Trading Estate and gave temporary permission to allow the impact to be assessed before a permanent change of use could be sought.
    • A summer coach trip for elderly residents to Wales has been abandoned over concerns about coronavirus safety, the availability of toilets and the possibility of infecting the locals. St Georges and Priorslee Parish Council decided not to hold its annual outing to Llandudno in August and instead redirect the funds towards a planned trip in November to Chester.

    The latest government plans for the return of indoor gyms and sports activities "lack clarity", according to British Gymnastics.

    With no announcement of a return for indoor sports, the group, based in Lilleshall, Shropshire, said it was taking action to support its community while lobbying ministers.

    The plan, external includes a hardship fund to give £110,000 in financial support to gymnasts affected by Covid-19, discounts on coaching courses and free guides and webinars to get clubs ready to reopen.

    Oliver Dowden, Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport, said on social media , externalthat the government hoped to "reopen gyms and leisure facilities in mid-July".

    Part of a Telford housing estate was cordoned off last night after the discovery of an unexploded World War Two device.

    A 100m cordon was put in place around the scene in Weybridge, Woodside, shortly before 23:00.

    Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) later attended the scene where they secured and removed the device safely.

    The Ironbridge Gorge Museums are planning to reopen, external a number of their attractions on 4 July and have put tickets on sale today.

    Blists Hill Victorian Town, the Museum of Iron, Museum of the Gorge and the Ironbridge Tollhouse were chosen because they were either big enough to allow social distancing or could have a one-way system.
