Police 'realistic' over gun surrenderpublished at 12:04 Greenwich Mean Time 13 November 2017
A national gun surrender has been launched today in the West Midlands.
While anyone handing over weapons won't face prosecution for possessing them, the firearms will be tested to see if they were used in recent crimes and charges could be brought over those.
That's why it's a gun "surrender", not "amnesty".

Realistically, police chiefs know weapons being handed over are more likely to have been inherited or discovered in attics, rather than come from gangs.
However, officers are keen to limit the number of guns that criminals can get their hands on and it's hoped this latest campaign will help.
