  2. Watch: Fast-flowing River Severn in Shrewsburypublished at 10:08 Greenwich Mean Time 26 February 2020

    The Environment Agency warns people there's still a danger to life from the swollen Severn in Shrewsbury.

    This morning, the agency's Chris Bainger tweeted , externalthe river's level had peaked but was still "exceptionally" high.

  3. Dinghy rescues for Bewdley residentspublished at 09:45 Greenwich Mean Time 26 February 2020

    Fire crews have been rescuing people from their homes in Bewdley, Worcestershire, this morning after water poured over the top of flood barriers.

    BBC Hereford and Worcester reporter James Pearson says he's seen a woman in her 70s being ferried on a dinghy by two firefighters, with more checking on other residents.

    He adds the River Severn in Bewdley is 14cm off the modern high of 20 years ago, and is expected to keep rising throughout the day to about that level.

    Further down the Severn from Shrewsbury and Ironbridge, people living in and around Bridgnorth are being told the river is expected to peak in that area this morning.

    Caravan parks and houses on Severn Terrace and Riverside are already flooded, the Environment Agency says. There are three flood warnings across the area. , external

    Keith, who lives in the village of Quatford, told BBC Shropshire the picture is "not good" where he lives, with the river already above the level at which it peaked last week.

    He said: "This is the first time actually that we've been worried, really worried."

    The River Severn has now peaked in Shrewsbury, the Environment Agency's said, external, but it's warned there's still a risk to life with levels remaining "exceptionally high".

    There's a severe "danger to life" flood warning covering the town, external with a number of roads and car parks still underwater.

    All rail lines at Shrewsbury station, apart from the routes to Crewe and Chester, remain shut with Network Rail making hourly checks on the Severn Viaduct., external

    Shrewsbury's three main shopping centres, Pride Hill, Darwin and Riverside, are also closed again today along with the library and a few schools and colleges, Shropshire Council's said.

    Dozens of flood warnings remain in place across Herefordshire, Shropshire and Worcestershire with the vast majority along the River Severn.

    The Environment Agency's warned the Severn, which has peaked in Shrewsbury already, is expected to peak further downriver over the next couple of days.

    In Herefordshire, there's still a warning on the River Lugg at Hampton Bishop and for the length of the River Wye from Hereford to Ross on Wye, external, where it's expected to peak later.

  8. Public urged to avoid parts of flooded Bewdleypublished at 07:51 Greenwich Mean Time 26 February 2020

    People in Bewdley are being urged by West Mercia Police t, externalo stay clear of part of the town where the River Severn's come over the top of flood barriers.

  9. School closes with roads expected to floodpublished at 07:35 Greenwich Mean Time 26 February 2020

    A school near Upton upon Severn's shut today and tomorrow due to expected rising flood water.

    Hanley Castle School has not flooded but it sits on the B4211, the Hanley Road, which has.

    The school said most routes into and out of the village will be affected by the rising River Severn so it will close until at least Friday.

    Four flood warnings, which cover the Upton upon Severn area, external, all say the river's expected to peak tomorrow at levels similar to last week when the area was heavily flooded.

    While the flood defences are holding at the moment in Ironbridge, the Environment Agency's said they have moved with the high level of the River Severn.

    Telford and Wrekin Council leader Shaun Davies tweeted , externalthe barriers in some places had "moved three metres".

    BBC Shropshire said the rise in the River Severn at Ironbridge appeared to be levelling out.

  11. Bus station shuts as water levels risepublished at 07:02 Greenwich Mean Time 26 February 2020

    Crowngate bus station in Worcester has shut , externaldue to rising flood water.

    First Worcester said services will now start and terminate at St Nicholas' Street.

    The main bridge in Worcester is open in both directions, external but the situation is being closely monitored.

    Seven flood warnings are in place for the city, external with the Environment Agency saying the river's expected to peak this evening.

    The Environment Agency has three flood warnings for the area, external and says the river's not expected to peak until this afternoon.

    The agency's Dave Throup tweeted , externalthe breach in Beales Corner, Bewdley, was not at the main demountable defences in Severnside.

    Residents living near Beales Corner , externalwere made aware with some leaving just before midnight. The public is asked to avoid the area.

  13. Rail lines still shut in and out of Shrewsburypublished at 06:41 Greenwich Mean Time 26 February 2020

    High water levels under the Severn Railway Bridge at Shrewsbury means some lines remain closed this morning.

    National Rail closed the lines, except for the routes to Crewe and Chester, yesterday as river levels rose close to the point where the viaduct has to close for safety reasons.

    Hourly checks are taking place with a further safety check taking place in daylight hours.

    Two severe flood warnings, external are still in place for the River Severn in Shrewsbury and the Wharfage, Ironbridge, and the Environment Agency's warning water could still go over the barriers in Ironbridge later.

    BBC Radio Shropshire says river levels "have flatlined for the last two hours".
