Concerns have been raised in the Commons about it.

The Shadow Health Secretary Heidi Alexander has accused the government of dealing with the symptoms - rather than the causes  - of high agency pay for nursing staff.

We are on track as a result of the measures we've taken to save 290 million pounds as against what we would have spent since last October. Two thirds of Trusts have reported savings and the price paid for agency nurses is ten percent lower than it was in October.

A spokesman for the Trust says this is typically 10-14 patients in any given week and follows the system they already have in place for patients requiring ENT, vascular or gastro-iIntestinal surgery.
