    I'm at the scene where a lorry has crashed into the window of a shop on West Street in Sheffield.

    We've not heard any reports of injuries, but will bring further updates.

    Sheffield is currently playing host to 58 elephants scattered around on a trail in the biggest arts project the city has ever seen. Each elephant has been designed by a different artist.

    They'll be on show until October, when they'll be auctioned off to raise money for Sheffield Children's Hospital Charity, external.

  3. Darnall disturbance suspects held after man 'run over'published at 13:06 British Summer Time 19 July 2016

    Two men are being held on suspicion of attempted murder after a man was seriously injured in the street.

    Police were called to reports of a large number of people fighting in the Staniforth Road area of Darnall, on Sunday evening.

    A man was found on the street with injuries described as consistent with being run over by a vehicle.

    One of the arrested men, a 34-year-old was later bailed, but officers are continuing to question another aged 30.

    The injured man was taken to hospital where his condition was described as stable.

    Rescued pooches from North Anston’s Thornberry Animal Sanctuary in South Yorkshire have been keeping cool on the hottest day of the year with some special frozen treats courtesy of generous supporters.

    Yorkshire one-day captain Alex Lees apologises for describing a decision by umpire Martin Saggers as "terrible".

    Lees' remark came after Saggers awarded a no-ball for a breach of fielding regulations during a T20 Blast defeat by Nottinghamshire on Friday.

  6. Regional mayor gets Lords seal of approvalpublished at 11:43 British Summer Time 19 July 2016

    Sheffield City Region has come a step closer to getting an elected mayor - after it was approved by the House of Lords last night.

    It means the first election will take place in May next year, but it's still not clear exactly what the mayor's powers will be.

    You can currently have your say in a public consultation which ends on the 12th Aug.

    South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue say that using a barbecue can carry a potential fire risk - but only if used incorrectly.

    They say to make sure you barbecue goes to plan:

    • Site it on a flat surface well away from trees, shrubs and grassland
    • Keep a bucket of water or sand close by, just in case
    • Never use petrol or paraffin on a barbecue, only recognised lighters and starter fuels
    • Make sure the coals have properly cooled before disposal and empty ashes onto bare soil, not into the bin

    Two men suffered serious injuries after a car hit a roundabout in Sheffield early this morning.

    The car, that was travelling on Moss Way, hit the roundabout at about 02:45.

    A woman in the car also suffered slight injuries.

    Yesterday there was a rare opportunity for some members of the public to look into the past. 

    The basement of Conisbrough Castle isn't usually open but volunteers were allowed down there as part of some work they're helping English Heritage carry out. 

    It seemed like an opportunity not to be missed, despite the fact that I'm not a fan of ladders or underground spaces!

    MPs have backed the renewal of the UK's Trident nuclear weapons system, voting 472 to 117 in favour after a five-hour Commons debate.

    Labour was split over the issue with 140 of its 230 MPs going against leader Jeremy Corbyn and backing the motion.  

    However, some of our local MPs voted with the Labour Leader, against the programme. they were:

    • Paul Blomfield (Labour, Sheffield Central)
    • Louise Haigh (Labour, Sheffield Heeley) 
    • Sarah Champion (Labour, Rotherham)

    Nick Clegg, Liberal Democrat and Sheffield Hallam MP also voted against renewal of Trident.

    Last night, The House of Commons backed the renewal of the UK's Trident nuclear weapons system by 472 votes to 117:  

    Four new nuclear submarines will be built with the aim of protecting the UK after MP's voted to renew the Trident weapons system. 

    At an estimated cost of £31 billion. 

    The MP for Chesterfield Toby Perkins - a former Armed Forces spokesman for the party - said the evidence for the deterrent was "overwhelming" :

    Around 300 people gathered in Mexborough Academy for a public meeting last night.

    The week before last we heard news that the new HS2 route goes through a brand new housing estate in Mexborough

    People from Shimmer Estate, along with others, discussed the proposals. No one from HS2 was there though. They're running their own drop in session this afternoon instead.
