    A Sheffield jeweller has done its bit to help produce a new gem in Team GB’s Olympic diving squad.

    Stannington medal hopeful Freddie Woodward is now in Rio preparing to compete in the individual three metre springboard - but left safely at home is the diamond-studded lucky charm which has rewarded his success and motivated him to aim higher for the last three years.

    The 13 diamonds each mark a major sporting achievement and a stepping stone to the Olympics. The pendant was created after Green + Benz MD Helen Dimmick, set up a reward scheme after watching a club diving display at Ponds Forge in 2012.

    Since 2013 Green + Benz have created key rings for 23 divers and set around 100 diamonds into them, at a cost of over £5,000.

  2. Police name woman who died in Rotherham crashpublished at 11:35 British Summer Time 9 August 2016

    A 52-year-old woman who died following a collision in the Clifton area of Rotherham last weekend has been named as Hasina Idris Mohamed.

    Miss Mohamed was pronounced dead at the scene close to Clifton Park on Saturday. Her family are receiving support from officers and have asked that their privacy is respected during this difficult time.

    A 51-year-old man driving the Ford Focus was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. He has been bailed pending further enquiries.  

  3. Sheffield chiropractor off to Rio to help Olympic athletespublished at 11:03 British Summer Time 9 August 2016

    Sheffield chiropractor Ulrik Sandstrom is heading off to Rio today to help track and field athletes at the Olympics.

    The therapist was invited to Rio after performing the same role at the London 2012 Olympics.

  4. Report on crash between two trams in Sheffieldpublished at 10:31 British Summer Time 9 August 2016

    A report has been released on a crash between two Supertrams in Sheffield last October.

    The Rail Accident Investigation Branch found the crash happened in what it describes as "conditions of low rail head adhesion" on the approach to Shalesmoor tram stop. It says tram 120 was not being driven in a manner appropriate for the conditions, and that its brakes did not provide the level of braking the driver expected.

    A number of passengers and a member of staff received minor injuries, and the tramway through Shalesmoor was closed for the rest of the day.

    Adults in Yorkshire who want to change gender could see long NHS waiting lists reduced. Jackie's been on the list for two years -- but should have been seen within eighteen weeks. A pilot project will now offer counselling during the wait.

    The NHS in Sheffield say they can't cope with the increased number of people needing treatment to change their gender, and waiting times are getting longer and longer.

    The NHS guidelines says people should have to wait no longer than four months.

    The average wait time in Sheffield is nearly a year.

  11. Sheffield man finds a worm in his Tesco cucumber and his complaint goes viralpublished at 08:32 British Summer Time 9 August 2016

    When Wes Metcalfe bought a cucumber from a Tesco shop in Dinnington, Sheffield, he did not expect it to come with a dead worm.

    So put off was he by the creature wedged inside the packaging, that he turned to Facebook to let Tesco know why it would be a while before he tucked into another cucumber sandwich again.

    Tesco's comical comeback and Mr Metcalfe's response to it have gone viral.
