  2. Ched Evans rape trial: Footballer 'could have had any girl'published at 17:51 British Summer Time 6 October 2016

    Ex-Sheffield United footballer Ched Evans told police he "could have had any of the girls" on the night he allegedly raped a woman, a court has heard.

    The Chesterfield forward denies raping a 19-year-old at a Premier Inn in Rhuddlan, Denbighshire, on 30 May 2011.

    Cardiff Crown Court heard the alleged victim arrived "crying hysterically" at a friend's house the next day.

    Mr Evans, 27, was found guilty of rape at Caernarfon Crown Court in 2012, but that conviction was quashed in April.

    A woman from Barnsley whose children were killed in a house fire started by her ex-husband has won a national award. 

    Claire Throssell lost her two sons, Jack and Paul, in the blaze in which the children's father Darren also died.

    Since then Claire has been campaigning for better protection for children in family court cases. 

    She's won a "difference-maker" award from the national magazine 'Red, external' and she gave us her reaction:

    Police officers, forensic specialists and an archaeologist who have been searching an olive grove next to the farmhouse for the past 11 days have now begun work on a second site, where rubble from the farmhouse was deposited in the days after Ben Needham's disappearance.

    On National Poetry Day , externalwe can bring you the full version of a powerful piece of writing by Sheffield poet Rachel Bower.

    It's called 'Women of Steel' and brings the past of Sheffield's women in industry and the present day together in a striking way.

    There's a statue in the city centre erected in honour of the women.

    The M18 is closed causing severe delays and queuing traffic northbound between junction 1 for Bramley and  J2 for the A1(M).

    It also means congestion on M1 to J33, A630 (Catcliffe) and on M1 to J31, A57 (Sheffield).

    Police searching for missing toddler Ben Needham on the Greek island of Kos have started digging at a second site about half a mile from where he was last seen  

    Det Insp Jon Cousins said the search at the second site was of "great significance" and would take four days.

    "It is at a different site to the farmhouse but I understand from what other people are telling me... that some material is believed to have been moved from that area and could well be here," he said.

    Seven guns have been seized in an effort to reduce organised crime in South Yorkshire.

    Police say tip-offs from the public have helped and eight people have been arrested.

  11. The nightmare of losing a child - screening of documentary in Sheffieldpublished at 14:45 British Summer Time 6 October 2016

    It's hard to imagine anything worse for a parent than losing a child. 

    Each year in the UK more than 5,000 parents leave hospital without the baby they'd been hoping to nurture.

    There's a new documentary being shown at the Showroom in Sheffield, external exploring what life is like after losing a baby. It's called Still Loved'.

    Teenager Charlene Colechin is recovering in a Sheffiled hospital after almost losing her life to meningitis. 

    The 18-year-old, from near Chesterfield in Derbyshire, wants pictures like this one to raise awareness of the dangers posed by the disease.

    A second site containing 20 piles of rubble is now being searched on the island of Kos.

    Police have been working near a farmhouse, part of which was demolished yesterday, in their search for clues over the 25-year-old mystery about Ben's fate.

    He vanished when out playing as his family renovated a farm building.

    Half a dozen vehicle fires in quick succession, all blamed on arsonists, have left fire crews in South Yorkshire frustrated.

    Last night they were called to locations in Sheffield, Rotherham and Doncaster.
