    Eight men and one woman have been arrested after officers carried out pre-planned warrants at two properties in Doncaster.

    The arrests - which were made in Dockin Hill Road and Allerton Street at around 05:00 today - included possession of a firearm and possession of controlled drugs.

    The suspects are being questioned by detectives.

    More than 5,000 council homes could be lost in Rotherham over the next 30 years, councillors say.

    report, external by the authority claims its housing stock could drop from about 21,000 properties to 15,500.

    Council leader Chris Read blamed national welfare and housing policy changes, including a 1% rent reduction expected to cost the authority £638m.

    A government spokesman said the changes in the Housing Act 2016, external would help people buy their own homes.

    Some sad news this morning - Green Estate in Sheffield has said goodbye to their beloved shire horse, Big Lad.

    The gentle giant, who had been a visitors' favourite for 10 years, had to be put down after developing a crippling hoof condition called laminitis.

    Rotherham Council's warning that it's going to lose a quarter of its council homes in the next 30 years.

    At the moment one in five houses in the borough is local authority-owned.

    The council's blaming changes in government policy for the fact that it'll have a massive black hole in the budget, which pays for buying or building new homes and maintaining existing ones.

    Drivers on the M180 near Thorne are being advised to allow extra time for their journeys this morning following a lorry fire.  

    The Eastbound carriageway is currently closed between the between the M18 and junction 1 at Thorne.
