All of the MPs from Doncaster and Rotherham signed it and so did Angela Smith who represents Penistone and Stocksbridge.

The two page letter offers two solutions to Transport Secretary Chris Grayling:

    • Move HS2 back to Meadowhall

The seven MPs say the current plans don’t send enough trains to South Yorkshire and don’t offer enough connections to major cities like Birmingham and London.

They say that means the economic benefits from HS2 to the region are much lower than they were under the Meadowhall option.

There’s also a warning that the new route may not save the £768 million HS2 expects it to.

A report HS2 wrote two years ago is also quoted at length which says “Sheffield Meadowhall is the right answer for the South Yorkshire hub”

We’ll find out if the MPs' campaign has been successful when the proposed route is confirmed next month.
