It happened yesterday evening at about 19:30 on Higham Road, Brampton Bierlow.
A man is said to have approached the boy grabbing him by his hips, removed his shirt and then tried to remove his shorts.
The alleged offender then ran off when a passerby shouted.
He is described as being white, of an average build, short dark hair and facial stubble.
He is reported to have been wearing an orange short-sleeved top, beige or sandy-coloured trousers which appeared dirty, especially below the knees and no shoes or socks.
Police in the area are asking witnesses or anybody who could have information as to who it was to get in touch.
An e-fit has been released by police investigating a burglary in Doncaster.
It's reported that a man offered cleaning services to an elderly person on Alverley Lane, Balby, on 21 June.
Another person is then said to have entered the house and stolen jewellery.
Anybody who recognises the man in the e-fit is asked to get in touch with police.
