    Marcia Grant's daughter Gemma Grant is standing up in court to read a victim impact statement.

    Wiping away tears, she describes the impact of the tragedy on Marcia's husband Delroy.

    "His mental health has been severely impacted, he still experiences flashbacks, trying to help Mum out from under the car, he feels helpless, angry and guilty that he couldn’t save his wife."

    She said described Marcia as the family's "rock".

    "Between us we lost a parent, grandparent, sister, friend," she adds.

    "This loss is felt over and over again.

    "This loss isn’t just ours, others outside the family have lost their best friend, anchor, support system."

    In a second police interview, the boy said in a prepared statement: "I have never driven a car before and struggled to do so.

    "I was in a state of panic, I did not know [Marcia] was behind the car, I never intended to hit her or cause her any harm."

    Mr McKone tells the court the defendant had tried to run from police but was arrested a short distance away.

    He was searched and they found a kitchen knife on him. He said "is she dead? It was an accident I swear."

    At the police station he said "I feel bad."

    Prosecuting barrister Mark Desmond McKone KC is outlining to the court the events outside Marcia Grant's home on the evening of Wednesday 5 April.

    He has told the court that the boy said in a police interview: "I never intended to hit her or cause her harm. I'm very sorry for what has happened."

    In a statement released by Mrs Grant’s family after her death, she was described as a “warm, loving and dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend”.

    "Her loss has already sent shockwaves through all who knew her or were lucky enough to be included in her orbit,” the statement added.

    Chris Read, leader of Rotherham Council, said Mrs Grant had been a well-known and highly-respected foster carer in the area.

    Mr Read told a meeting at the time: “Not only did Marcia provide endless love and care to vulnerable children when they needed it most, sharing her time and considerable experience to nurture and support fellow foster carers, like us, I know the fostering community are devastated by her loss.”

    Following Mrs Grant’s death, floral tributes were left at the scene by grieving members of the community, with one message reading: “I’m so sorry for your loss. She was a beautiful soul.”

    Marcia Grant was found seriously injured outside her home in Hemper Lane on 5 April.

    During the boy's appearance at Sheffield Youth Court that month, it was heard how he had tried to take Mrs Grant’s car.

    In an attempt to stop him, the 60-year-old is said to have gone behind it but the vehicle reversed and caused her to fall on her back and hit her head on the ground.

    Prosecutor Gary Crothers told the court: "She was trapped under the vehicle, her husband tried to break the window of the car to get the defendant out of the car."

    Mr Crothers said the vehicle then reversed "at some speed causing the catastrophic injuries to Mrs Grant".

    She was pronounced dead shortly after 19:30 BST.

    A 13-year-old boy is due to be sentenced at Sheffield Crown Court after killing a grandmother by running her over with her own car.

    The defendant, who cannot be named due to his age, admitted causing the death of Marcia Grant by dangerous driving in Greenhill, Sheffield on 5 April 2023 at a hearing in October.

    The teenager, who was 12 at the time of the offence, will also be sentenced for a second charge of possession of a bladed article, namely a kitchen knife.
