    Sections of a wall covered in the hand-prints of children and parents who first used a ward at Stafford Hospital have been removed, a hospital spokesman says.

    The Shugborough Ward, home to the "wall of hands", closed during the transfer of services from Stafford (now County Hospital) to the Royal Stoke.  

    The wall was due to be knocked down as part of redevelopment plans and campaigners wanted to preserve it.

    A spokesman for University Hospital North Midlands they are looking at how the removed sections of the wall could be rehoused and used to create a monument.

    The Met Office has put out a yellow weather warning, external for strong winds for Staffordshire and Cheshire today.

    It says gusts of "90 mph are possible".

    A search for a missing Nantwich pensioner, external, who has dementia, is focusing on Hough near Shavington, police say.

    Cheshire Police have told me an off-duty policeman saw a man fitting 83-year-old Roy Tomlinson's description in the area on Thursday morning.

    He has been reported missing from the Shrewbridge Road area since Tuesday.

    Wigan Athletic have signed the Crewe Alexandra forward Ryan Colclough for an undisclosed fee.

    Alex academy product Colclough, 21, has agreed a three-and-a-half year contract with Wigan, who are currently fourth in League One.

    Disabled people aren't being allowed into a Cheshire shopping centre because of fears they won't be able to escape if there's a fire.

    Macclesfield's Grosvenor Shopping Centre, external has emergency exits which can only be reached via a staircase. 

    It says it's taken the measure to limit access after concerns from Cheshire Fire and Rescue service, external over how to get people out of the building safely if there's a fire.

    A new £1.5m unit to treat people with eye problems is being opened at the Royal Stoke University Hospital, external.

    The specialist cataract suite will be used to perform eye surgery on patients from across Staffordshire. 

    It's expected the new unit will treat about 1,500 patients a year, leading to reduced waiting lists.
