    A horse had to be rescued today by the fire service in Handforth, Cheshire,, external after getting stuck in a stable and ending up "upside down".

    Cheshire Fire and Rescue says the 30-year-old animal, called Whisky Mac, was put back on his feet by its specialist animal rescue team and a vet cared for him throughout.

    A man from the Staffordshire Moorlands has criticised the local NHS 11 after delays in getting hold of important anti-epilepsy mediation.

    Chris Maguire (pictured, right) told BBC Radio Stoke he needed to get his prescription over the bank holiday weekend, but he and his wife Sarah say the service took three days to sort it out.

    Staffordshire Doctors Urgent Care , externaldelivers the 111 service and says it is "premature to comment" on the case until its own comprehensive review has been completed. But it says it wants them to get in touch to fully investigate their concerns.

    NHS England says it's going to try to reduce costs after it gave more than £165,000 to a healthcare company in the West Midlands that, over five months, ended up carrying out just one GP visit and 18 phone consultations.

    The NHS says Primecare was given the contract after local GPs - with the exception of those in Herefordshire - weren't interested in providing the service. 

    Primecare said it was NHS England's decision to pay the money for the contract up front.

    The family of a 20-year-old man who was found dead at his Stoke-on-Trent home last week say his death has "torn a gaping hole in the heart of our family".

    Staffordshire Police, external say David Peters, a student at Staffordshire University, was discovered at a house on Cauldon Road, Shelton on Thursday morning.

    The force says his death isn't being treated as suspicious. Last week, it said his death was believed to be as a result of ingesting an unknown substance.

    His family have said in a statement he was a "really talented swordsman", who became a national champion and represented Great Britain in European Championships.

    The government has been asked to intervene over plans to relocate Stafford Rugby Club near to Doxey Marshes.

    Residents angry about the plans have asked Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government Greg Clark to "call in" the latest planning application, requesting him to take it out of the hands of the borough council.

    The government says it will only consider whether intervention is appropriate if planning permission is granted this afternoon, external by the authority.

    Work has started to reinstate hundreds of Victorian tiles to the floor of the medieval undercroft at Norton Priory in Cheshire.

    The tiles were lifted last year, external, for essential repairs to the floor beneath. 

    The priory, which dates back to the 12th Century, is the largest excavated monastic site in Europe.

    Council leaders have agreed on who they want to take on the new controversial role of city director of Stoke-on-Trent City Council, external - the current Head of Paid Services David Sidaway.

    The city director replaces the role of chief executive which was scrapped by the coalition administration last year. 

    The appointment's expected to be confirmed by the full council later this week.
