Severn Trent says it is taking samples in the ST2 area of Stoke-on-Trent, external after reports of discoloured water.
The company says discolouration is normally caused by main pipes being disturbed, and is advising people to run a tap for at least 20 minutes to help solve the problem.

The father of one of the UK's Eurovision hopefuls, Jake Shakeshaft, from Stoke-on-Trent, says he's still struggling to take it all in.
George Shakeshaft is anxiously awaiting his son's performance in the competition in Sweden on Saturday. Jake is one half of a duo alongside friend Joe Woolford.
The pair were selected after competing on the TV talent show 'The Voice'.
The family of a teenager who died on holiday are hoping to get an entire football stadium singing this weekend, external.

The Ride2Monaco, external will cover 850 miles (1.400km) in eight days and climb over 59,000ft (18,000m).
Starting with a lap of Silverstone Circuit, the route, external will take them across England and France, taking on four famous Alps climbs along the way.
It will be a mammoth task, cycling between 90 and 117 miles ( 145 - 188km) per day.

Two men in their twenties have been arrested on suspicion of supplying drugs after a police chase through Stoke-on-Trent, police say.
Two cars collided on the A34 Newcastle Road near Jubilee Workingmen's Club in Trent Vale around 14:30 yesterday after one was pursued along the A500.
Staffordshire Police say a 58-year-old man from Stone was taken to hospital with whiplash injuries, and two men aged 23 and 24 were arrested. They've been bailed as investigations continue.
A Nantwich kick-boxing gym is celebrating after young fighters scooped honours, external at the British Championships.

The 96 victims of the Hillsborough disaster and former Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish are to be awarded the Freedom of Liverpool.
Among the victims was Paul Murray, from Meir, Staffordshire who was 14.
