    A 41-year-old man from Newcastle-under-Lyme remains in hospital with serious head injuries after an assault outside the Noah’s Ark pub in Hartshill on 28 August.

    Staffordshire Police said a 30-year-old man, from Stoke-on-Trent, was arrested on suspicion of wounding with intent and released while enquiries continue.

    Plans by Pizza Express to close 73 of its restaurants, putting 1,100 jobs at risk, have been approved by creditors.

    The chain said nearly 90% voted for its restructuring deal, which will also see it secure a cut in rent costs.

    Last month, the firm said it was forced into the move by the enforced closure of restaurants during the pandemic, the cost of reopening and the uncertainty over the UK's economic future.

    The council said they would include measures to make it easier to ride into Crewe and Congleton town centres.

    With so many large events being called off, it's nice to report that one is going ahead.

    And the Weston Park Model Airshow, which was called off in June, is now going to go ahead on 17 and 18 October.

    The event said it has worked with the local authority to meet government guidelines and will put a limit on the number of people attending.

    This follows other successful open air events at the Weston Park estate in Staffordshire, including a camper van gathering and a food market last weekend.

    A man has been seriously injured by a van in a suspected hit-and-run in Crewe.

    Cheshire Police said the 33-year-old was struck at the junction of Vernon Way and West Street in the early hours of Sunday.

    The van was later found abandoned on Parkers Road in Leighton.

    Yesterday morning, a cyclist also suffered serious injuries after being hit by a van in Crewe.

    Cheshire Police said this man was in his 60s and the collision happened on Bradfield Road.
