    Armed officers were called to two separate reports of a man in possession of a gun in Stoke-on-Trent.

    Police were first called to America Street in Tunstall at about 16:55 yesterday, but were unable to locate anyone matching the description.

    Officers were then sent to Sandy Road in Sandyford at 18:00 following reports of a disturbance.

    Firearms officers carried out a search of the area but again were unable to locate the man or the weapon, said Staffordshire Police.

    Engineers are working on the faulty signalling system with tests being carried out along "several miles of railway," after the failure near Crewe said Network Rail.

    Officers were called to the Orbital Retail Centre, in Cannock, just before 16:00 BST on Monday.

    The 47-year-old victim was taken to hospital suffering serious injuries to his hand, police said.

    A 46-year-old man, from Birmingham who was arrested on suspicion of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, has been released on bail.
