A Syrian family was racially abused within hours of them settling into their new home in Stoke-on-Trent.

It happened last Thursday evening in Bentilee when a council worker asked a neighbour of the refugees to turn down music. He abused the council worker and then racially abused the family.

The decision was taken to move the family to the home of relatives - also refugees who had just moved into the area. The council has now moved both families into a hotel until "appropriate" housing can be found.
