  2. Crewe Town Council to discuss HS2 changespublished at 16:17 British Summer Time 24 October 2016

    Crewe Town Council is to discuss backing proposed changes to the HS2 high speed rail route near the town.

    The council's been advised to agree to moving the entrance to the tunnel that will run through Cheshire, and relocating the connection between the West Coast Mainline and the high speed line itself further south.

    It's also been recommended to agree to a maintenance depot being relocated to Stone, instead of in Cheshire, despite a loss of new jobs.

  7. Ceremony to remember Shot at Dawn deadpublished at 14:19 British Summer Time 24 October 2016

    The names of three soldiers who were executed for mutiny in World War One will be added to the National Memorial Arboretum’s Shot at Dawn memorial.

    It currently remembers 306 soldiers shot for desertion or cowardice during the conflict.

    Two of the mutineers,Jack Braithwaite, from New Zealand, and Gunner William Lewis, from Scotland, were shot in 1916.

    Jesse Short, from Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, was executed in 1917. 

    They were all subsequently pardoned. 

  8. Coming up on TV: Campaigner helping to relocate Calais childrenpublished at 13:27 British Summer Time 24 October 2016

    A campaigner from the West midlands is helping to relocate children from the so-called jungle camp in Calais.

    French authorities are preparing to start dismantling the site today. About 7,000 people have been living there. 

    The UK has begun to accept about 1,300 unaccompanied children.

    A Hanley man has been fined nearly £1,500 for selling cars in the street.  

    The city council says the prosecution is the first of its kind in Stoke-on-Trent - and related to the sale of two cars on Douglas Street in Cobridge, which locals had complained about.

    The authority says it is illegal to leave two or more vehicles advertised for sale parked within 500 metres of each other.

    The RSPCA is appealing for information after two dying kittens were dumped in a skip in Staffordshire. 

    The animal welfare charity was alerted to the little tabby kittens last Tuesday after a woman found them in a skip outside her home in Cornmill Lane in Tutbury. 

    The male kitten has since died but his sister is now recovering.

  15. Babies and children 'in desperate need of cots'published at 10:46 British Summer Time 24 October 2016

    Dozens of babies in north Staffordshire are sleeping in dangerous conditions because they don't have their own cot, according to a local charity.

    The Alice Charity, external in Newcastle says it knows of at least 24 babies and 88 children in need of their own bed.

    Stoke City manager Mark Hughes was full of praise for match-winner Xherdan Shaqiri after a much-needed victory at Hull.

    After missing some games, Hughes said the Switzerland midfielder had been "really positive" and twice produced a "moment of magic".

    "We have been playing well for a number of weeks. We are building performances. From start to finish we were in control," Hughes said.

  17. Rise in type 2 diabetes 'needs change in law'published at 10:03 British Summer Time 24 October 2016

    More than half a million people across the West Midlands are living with type 2 diabetes.

    According to figures obtained by the BBC's Inside Out programme, that number is expected to increase significantly over the next 20 years, with experts saying more needs to be done tackle the problem.
