    A man was robbed at knifepoint in Town Road, Hanley.

    Staffordshire Police said the victim was approached by a man asking where he could sell his mobile phones at about 17:15 yesterday.

    The victim went to the man's car, where he was threatened with a knife and had cash stolen.

    Police say the suspect is described as white, aged about 25, 5ft 5 tall and slim, with shaven ginger hair. He was wearing grey jeans and a grey jacket.

  2. Iron Age gold attracts 20,000 to Stoke-on-Trent museumpublished at 14:28 British Summer Time 4 April 2017

    Jewellery that could be the oldest Iron Age gold found in Britain attracted 20,000 visitors to The Potteries Museum & Art Gallery in a month.

    Three necklaces and a bracelet believed to be up to about 2,400 years old were on show after two metal detectorists discovered them in Staffordshire.

    A total of 20,640 people went to the exhibition between 1 March and Sunday. The museum had 11,450 visitors in total in March last year.

  3. Anti-social behaviour order in place at Leek bus stationpublished at 13:53 British Summer Time 4 April 2017

    A special order which aims to target anti-social behaviour , external has come into force at Leek bus station today.

    The station is the first site in the Moorlands to be covered by a Public Space Protection Order designed to stop activities which have a detrimental effect on local residents, police say. 

    Staffordshire Moorlands District Council and the police worked together to introduce the measure following concerns about noise, criminal damage, misuse of alcohol and vehicle nuisance. 

    It remains in place for three years.

    Stafford's MP has called for a full consultation exercise following the announcement a children's A&E in the town wouldn't be re-opened for the foreseeable future .

    The College of Child Health has upheld an NHS Trust decision to shut the service last August following concerns over standards.

    Jeremy Lefroy MP says he will now raise the issue with the Department of Health.

    A replacement minor injuries unit is to be upgraded to include minor illnesses treatments.

  8. Illegal cigarettes dumped in Crewepublished at 11:21 British Summer Time 4 April 2017

    About 65,000 illegal cigarettes with a street value of £24,000 have been dumped in a field in Crewe, Cheshire East Council says.

    They were dumped on land off Clay Lane.

    The council says the cigarettes are known as "cheap whites" - foreign imports brought into the UK which are illegal due to the non-payment of duty. 

    Councillor Paul Bates, cabinet member for health and communities, said: “There is far more to this than the non-payment of duty. The sale of illicit tobacco often has links to serious and organised crime."

  9. Concerns over road workers being killed and seriously injured published at 10:57 British Summer Time 4 April 2017

    Highways England says it's growing increasingly concerned about the number of road workers being killed or seriously injured on the region's road network.

    In the past decade, Highways England says 12 road workers and two traffic officers have died. Figures we've seen suggest more than 300 people have been seriously injured in that period. 

    Les Bramwell, from Penkridge, was hit by a car while repairing a pothole on the A50 near Stoke-on-Trent last year. He was left with a broken neck and leg and has not been able to return to work.

    Highways England wants to reduce the figures. It has set itself a target for ensuring no road worker is killed or injured, but it's a way off - 2040.

  10. Security guard robbed collecting cash from supermarketpublished at 10:34 British Summer Time 4 April 2017

    A security guard was robbed while collecting cash from a branch of Aldi in Stoke-on-Trent, police say, external .

    Two men approached the G4S security guard outside the Aldi Meir Park store on Whittle Road at 16:50 yesterday. One of the men was armed with a wheel brace, Staffordshire Police said.

    The suspects are described as wearing light coloured clothing and dark face coverings, including baseball caps. 

    They escaped in a black Alfa Romeo Mito car.

    Police say the security guard was treated by paramedics for a minor leg injury.

    A scheme to help protect people with dementia in case they go missing has been launched by police in Cheshire. 

    It encourages carers and family to register key information about the person, such as medication, address and phone number.

    Last year the force dealt with more than 6,500 reports of missing people, many living with dementia. 

    The so-called Herbert Protocol is an online system which police hope will cut the time it takes officers to find someone. 

    Relatives and carers can also log details such as where the person likes to visit or former jobs.

    There's an urgent need for more foster carers in the Staffordshire Moorlands, the fostering service says. 

    It says it needs at least 60 people to come forward this year and help with the growing number of children who need temporary care.

    An operation to remove 300 tonnes of commercial waste from woodland near the M6 will continue this morning, Staffordshire County Council says.

    Fly-tippers dumped the rubbish in Bowsey Wood, near the village of Madeley Heath, in January, but the local authority says it had to perform tests on the waste before they could start to remove it.
