    A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder, external after a woman died on the A38.

    Police say a van pulled into a layby on the dual carriageway near Burton and as a woman left the vehicle she was struck by a car.

    A 39-year-old man from Hull who was travelling in the white van has been arrested.

    The victim has not yet been formally identified.

    A 14-year-old girl has died in a collision between a minibus and a bin lorry in Castle Vale, Birmingham.

    The girl was a pupil at John Taylor High School in Barton-under-Needwood, Staffordshire, police say, external.

    The ambulance service said she was confirmed dead at the scene.

    West Midlands Police said three teachers and 20 other pupils were also on board the coach.

    One pupil was taken to hospital with superficial injuries and several others were treated at the scene for minor injuries.

    Two shotguns have been stolen from a house in Claverley.

    Police say the thieves broke in some time yesterday and also took a TV and jewellery among other items.

    Last month five shotguns were stolen from a house in Kinlet.

    Emergency services are at the scene of a "serious collision" on the A38 Kingsbury Road in Castle Vale.

    A school in Barton-under-Needwood has said on their website , externalthey are "aware of a road traffic accident involving some of our students."

    The statement on John Taylor High School's website added they are "unclear of specific details and are awaiting confirmation from the authorities."

    A spokesperson for West Midlands Ambulance Service said they were called to Kingsbury Road on the A38 at 09:00 this morning.

    They said it is a serious road traffic accident and they have numerous resources at the scene.

    Staffordshire Police says a 39-year-old from Hull was arrested after the collision between a pedestrian and a car.

    The force says the victim, a woman, has yet to be formally identified and they're still trying to work out how she died.

    Paramedics managed to get a woman's heart restarted at the scene of a crash , externalnear Burton last night but she later died in hospital.

    West Midlands Ambulance Service was called, along with other emergency services, to the A38 near Branston where a pedestrian had been hit by a car.

    They say they found the woman had gone into cardiac arrest after suffering serious injuries but their staff restarted her heart through CPR and other efforts.

    However, they say she died after she was airlifted to hospital in Coventry.

  15. M6 Toll: Car prices rise for motorway driverspublished at 09:47 British Summer Time 7 July 2017

    Prices will rise for car drivers using the M6 Toll, operator Midland Expressway Limited (MEL) has said.

    The new prices will apply to cars during weekdays, increasing by 40p from 7 August. HGV prices will be frozen.

    It will be the first rise in five years and reflects, MEL says, a "partial catch‐up with inflation".

    The new car toll prices will be £5.90 for daytime main tolls and £4.40 for daytime ramps, known as local tolls.

    Prices for all other classes of vehicle remain unchanged as do night and weekend prices.

    The A38 was shut to allow an air ambulance to land and take the woman to hospital, but she later died.
